1/10 🧵
An obvious patriotic deed for U.S. citizens wanting to protect the nation's economy, support #Ukraine, weaken Putin, is to use even ONE gal/week less #gasoline. It was an obvious way to help curb inflation from start of reopening #oil demand surge, before any war.
#OOTT
2/10
But #oil/fossil industry's crisis response has been to taunt U.S./EU citizens about a fossil dependence imposed on them via decades of organized political and economic power deployed to stifle #renewables and enrich oil oligarchs & tyrants, both domestic and foreign.
#OOTT
3/10
U.S. #oil production was hit by COVID, made worse by GOP/Trump's negligent (was it purposeful?) and idiotic pandemic policies, not Biden or Greta or Democratic policy. Even as COVID loomed clueless Saudi Arabia & allies were prepping a price war w/Russia & U.S. shale.
#OOTT
4/10
U.S. 2021 crude output was -1.1 mln bpd vs 2019 pre-pandemic peak. #Russia exports 5 to 6 mln bpd crude #oil, on top of #OPEC+ cuts & members' (Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Venezuela etc) inability to meet even the reduced quotas. They're the source of energy mismanagement.
#OOTT
5/10
@bjlefebvre tweeted:
Oxy CEO Vicki Holub: “Nobody anticipated needing to grow significantly in 2022."
So you didn't see pandemic or recovery coming?
Everybody knew #oil demand would jump significantly in 2021-22!!
But lecture us on industry's wise energy stewardship.
#OOTT
6/10
But no Democratic, much less GOP official or an #oil exec, dares suggest any of 150 mln U.S. single passenger commuters ride a bus or train or carpool to work to save the economy or help #Ukraine. None of them will lead by example and ride a bus or carpool themselves. #OOTT
7/10
And environmental, #climate change, anti-#oil groups aren't blameless. They haven't organized actions to reduce #gasoline use at start of reopening or when #Ukraine war started. None suggested policy compromises like drill-but-stop-flaring or shale tied to less coal.
#OOTT
8/10
Instead of working to shape an orderly #energy transition, environmental Left wasted decades on quixotic, losing fights vs pipelines that pollute less than moving #oil on trains & trucks.
Fighting for mass transit & lowering demand is what shuts pipelines, drilling.
#OOTT
9/10
Even after COVID showed that less #oil demand resulted in dramatic cuts in fossil fuel capital spending/investment, not to mention air and water pollution, there've been no campaigns to explain that less single passenger commuters, not a protest, will shut pipelines.
#OOTT
10/10
Any rational person has to listen to #oil apologists, most who are not identified as shills, enjoying global mismanagement of COVID & reopening and Russia's imbecilic war, just to shout "see, you need oil now," after decades and millions spent to stop alternatives. #OOTT
