Congratulations to #Ukraine's people and its Armed Forces. Today is the 50th day of resistance since #Russia launched #PutinsWar.
And overnight a few smiles from Ukrainians.
Read all Thursday's important news and analysis in the daily thread⬇️
First, still no confirmation, but chat in #Kherson was alive with speculation #Ukraine may have yet again hit Russian aircraft at the by now legendary airfield "#Chornobaivka"
This was apparently filmed by a resident "looking towards the airfield"
Next to the news, confirmed by #Russia, that their huge missile cruiser "Moskva" (Moscow) is badly damaged.
#Ukraine says it fired two of its 'Neptune' missiles which hit the ship, thought to have over 500 crew on board.
But Russia claims there was a fire which ignited missiles
If #Russia's version is correct why would it suddenly order all its Black Sea warships to leave Sevastopol and move to the eastern coast of #Crimea and Novorossiysk?
It's not yet known if Moskva was totally sunk or not.
Russian Navy 'claims' no casualties: the ship was evacuated
Some more successes for #Ukraine too - already buoyed by the news the U.S. is sending loads of new equipment. Among the gifts will be Javelin missiles, one of which took out a Russian rocket launcher here.
Even "neutral" #Switzerland is drinking to the success of #Ukraine and particularly its' leader
Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been honoured on Swiss vodka. Until 2026, all profits from sales will be sent to the needs of Ukrainians and the restoration of the country.
#Ukraine's published details of an ambush which led to destruction of a column of Russians.
No date given; it happened near #Izium where Ukrainians waited to blow up a bridge.
I'm pretty sure this is official detail of what I reported earlier this week.
Pay more attention that it's not Putin saying these things. Medvedev almost disappeared for a couple of years but now back as Putin struggles with sacking and jailing leading figures and copes with destruction of flagship "Moskva"
Day 52 since #Russia decided it would be fun to obliterate its neighbour. They're still trying.
No matter the human cost, Putin doesn't want peace; he never did.
#Ukraine army losses announced, another airport damaged overnight + top trolling from🇺🇦Defence, all in the daily🧵⬇️
I'll start with the news that President @ZelenskyyUa admitted #Ukraine's losses in the war for the first time.
He told CNN that 2,500-3,000 members of his armed forces had lost their lives and about 10,000 more injured.
Russia claimed 36,000 🇺🇦soldiers have been killed.
Intriguing news from #Mariupol where some more #Ukraine fighters have managed to break through a Russian line to hook up with the bulk of the remaining Resistance in the Azovstal complex.
Russia says almost all were killed, but I think over 100 made it: awaiting confirmation.
It's Good Friday - but little good about it as Day 51 of #Russia's war of choice on #Ukraine has started with some of the heaviest bombing seen since the start of the war.
All the news coming in this daily thread, updated in real time, so come on in...
The loudest explosions seem to have been in the village of #Vasilkiv which is about 40km (25 miles) south-west of the #Ukraine's capital city.
More from #Kyiv - the blasts could be seen lighting up the entire sky even if the main explosions were many miles away.
Brighter, louder then anything before: eye witnesses report walls shaking - perhaps the biggest warhead unleashed so far on #Ukraine in #Putin's war of choice
Day 48 of #Russia's "military operation" aka genocide of a peaceful neighbouring state.
This is Tuesday's thread with the news and analysis from #Ukraine and beyond.
The big question: have chemical weapons been used in Mariupol' overnight?
Read on...
There is no proof yet, and it's going to be almost impossible to get any, but #Ukraine troops in besieged #Mariupol' claim chemical weapons were dropped by drone onto the Azovstal plant
The first overseas acknowledgment of the allegation has come from UK
Monday. Day 47 of #Russia's illegal and dirty war on #Ukraine with more and more executed civilians being found and rape allegations piling up.
Overnight bombing raids and fighting in the east continued.
All the details in the daily 🧵 updated throughout the day
The attack on transport continues with more Russian missiles targeted on railways during the night.
The Head of Railways released only this photo, while admitting 5 locomotives had been damaged along with some tracks. Thankfully no deaths or injuries. Locations not revealed.
#Ukraine also has Intelligence saying #Russia will attack road connections soon too to further limit supply lines.
With Russia's army massed in the east and south near the Russian border (or the puppet states) in all cases, their supply lines are far easier than in 1st phase
#Russia's war on #Ukraine - this is the start of the daily thread.
Day 46 begins with both sides claiming they've inflicted significant losses on its opponent. That can only mean the war is hotting up significantly in the east.
Read on...
It's taken me quite a while this morning to log all the claims and counter claims.
#Ukraine says it destroyed a "large column of enemy equipment" heading towards #Izium in the #Kharkiv region.
No significant proof yet on either side; just one photo supposedly from #Izyum so far
1/2 Another nasty development yesterday evening was the reported use by #Russia of "parachute bombs" in #Kharkiv for the first time.
These are purely intended to kill civilians. Let me explain in the next tweet how/why:
It's Saturday. Day 45 of #Russia's apparent attempt to wipe #Ukraine and its people from the map.
There is no neutrality in such a conflict. If you pretend to be neutral you are condoning the targeting of civilians, the mass slaughter of women and kids.
Here's the daily🧵⬇️
There were far fewer air raid alarms across #Ukraine overnight.
Two people were injured in one Russian missile attack in #Poltava region.
"Infrastructure" was hit in Mirhorod according to authorities.
#Kharkiv had its usual bombardment last night - this is the usual "night music" there
Russian forces have what amounts to a partial blockade of #Ukraine's second city. More of the terrorist forces are gathering over the border with a renewed attempt to capture the city likely⬇️
