I remember quite a bit about the politics of growing up in the UK at the time-I remember Thatcher & not having known anything before her. I remember Northern cities I grew up in & how it took ages to get them smartened up. But I also have some international political memories ...
The superpower summits for example ... 
but, mostly, of course 1989 ... the fall of the wall, the protests around CEE and the collapse of communist regimes - and the sense of hope that all brought - I was still to young to get it all but there was enough in the ether & from parents, relatives, etc ...
But also things like this ...
