A reasonably quiet start to Monday so far for #Ukraine, but more explosions in occupied #Kherson.
This big explosion just one of the blasts heard right in the centre of Kherson itself, on vulitsya Parovozna.
#Russia has suffered big losses in Kherson region the past 24 hours.
What is interesting in #Kherson and other occupied areas in the south, is how confident and successful #Ukraine's pilots are becoming.
🇺🇦planes reportedly struck 8 Russian bases y'day. They claim destruction of 41 soldiers, Uragan and Pantsir are defence systems and 6 vehicles.
Yesterday I reported on the killing of a top traitor. All main media in #Ukraine have now reported this story. But there are contradictions, e.g. was he stabbed or shot?
Some now believe it was a "staged death", a way for Kovalev to make a new life in🇷🇺
Air raid sirens in a few regions in #Ukraine right now including #Kharkiv.
Meanwhile it's reported there are several explosions in the small town of #Synelnykove in Dnipropetrovsk region. Already plumes of smoke before dawn breaks.
Another well above average day for #Russia's losses in the war.
Well done to the FSB which for years fails to find the killers of dissidents such as Boris Nemtsov, yet has seen up the Dariya Dugina case double quick.
They claim "agent" Bohdan Tsyganenko helped Ms Vovk with fake plates, passports and the IED used to target the car.
🤡🤡
At its daily briefing, #Russia's Defence Ministry claims to have captured the village of #Kodema, around 15km south of #Bakhmut.
Could be rotation of troops, but would be a huge coincidence wouldn't it? Some invaders from #Russia were snapped hastily leaving occupied #Tamaryne (RU: #Tomarino) in #Kherson region.
Much written today about the 'start' of #Ukraine's counter-offensive to regain #Kherson
In my opinion it's a misleading headline. The campaign started weeks ago when #HIMARS began reducing #Russia's capability in the region.
Don't expect quick ground movement unless RU retreats.
#Russia's occupiers in #Enerhodar say a shell fired by #Ukraine has hit the roof of the nuclear power plant
All the "news" spewing out quickly before inspectors arrive!
At the very least these stories are strongly contested and best not to believe the likely outright propaganda
A veteran liberal politician has been arrested again by #Russia
72 year old Leonid Gozman is President of the "Union of Right Forces"
In July he was detained for not revealing his Israeli citizenship, today cuffed in #Moscow for "publicly identifying the USSR with Nazi Germany"
#Russia releases photos of the damage (caused by shelling) to the roof of building #1 of the #Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
Occupiers say fresh fuel for reactors is stored there.
#Ukraine is adamant Russia is creating a false flag event to gain support and threaten all Europe.
Update from #Mykolaiv (RU: #Nikolaev) - there are reports of one confirmed death and possibly more under rubble in the centre of the city.
Missiles are not falling now but an air raid warning remains in place.
President Zelenskyy repeats peace talks with #Russia can't happen yet:
"They do not want negotiations. This is an ultimatum, we must recognise that Donbas & Crimea are Russian territories. Recently, they said that #Ukraine should also recognise the south as Russian territories."
Nova Dmytrivka, Arkhanhel's'ke, Tomyna Balka and Pravdyne. Just two months ago Ukraine liberated #Pravdyne.
It's likely #Russia's army is pulling back a little to consolidate with supplies stretched.
#Ukraine has been remembering one of the darkest chapters of its history.
8 years ago, #Russia's soldiers opened fire on defenceless #Ukraine troops retreating through an agreed "humanitarian corridor" in #Ilovaisk, killing hundreds.
Looks like there's a problem with Twitter on laptop. The app still works but very difficult to work on the phone.
So I'm going to read messages and hope the problem is fixed soon.
Still no laptop access to Twitter and there is a fairly global problem it would seem.
Nothing like the problems facing #Russia! This is #Belgorod, just over the border from #Kharkiv. Webcams capture a lot of activity and explosions, maybe not all air defences.
Welcome to Day 1285 of Russia's war of choice.
Sunday 31 August, the last day of summer in the northern hemisphere and Russia's summer offensive is the latest failure.
Here's another daily thread - all the news all the time.
If you were busy on Saturday and missed some, or all, of the news from Ukraine, just click this link and find out what happened step by step throughout the day.
This time y'day I was reporting on Ukraine strikes on occupied Ukraine. Now satellite imagery and analysis from @avivector shows 2 Russian helicopters may have been destroyed in a drone attack on Simferopol airport.
There are signs of fire where Mi-8 + Mi-24 choppers had been.
20 past 6 in the morning in Kyiv and none of the nightmare of 24 hours ago.
Here's the current air map and it's been like that for a few hours. For real 'nerds' it's maybe interesting that the air raid alerts in Chernihiv and Sumy are now not region-wide but more specific.
Day 1282 of Russia's all-out war is another very grim day with at least 15 civilians murdered by Putin's regime in clear attacks on residential buildings and areas of Kyiv.
Here's the Ukraine-Russia thread for Thursday 28 August 2025
A quiet start to Wednesday exploded into life - more importantly death - in the early hours in Kyiv.

In the coming days I'll try to start the thread before I go to sleep here.
Good morning world! It's Day 1281, so it must be thread number 1281 (4205 since the start of the Crimea invasion)
