#BREAKING
#Chinese authorities are significantly increasing policing, including arbitrary collection of #DNA from residents in many towns and villages throughout the #Tibet Autonomous Region, reported @hrw. @hrw_chinese @KenRoth
The program’s stated goal is to improve healthcare delivery, but in #Xinjiang, the authorities used it to surreptitiously collect en masse the DNA of residents aged 12 to 65.

@WilliamYang120 @KyinzomDhongdue
A report from a #Tibetan township in #Qinghai province in December 2020 stated that #DNA was being collected from all boys aged 5 and above.
@WenzelMichalski @SenRubioPress
“Now the authorities are literally taking blood without consent to strengthen their surveillance capabilities” said @SophieHRW, #China director at Human Rights Watch.
@hrw @Sophiemcneill
These mass #DNA collection drives appear to be taking place in all seven prefectures or municipalities in the #TAR, which covers the western part of the #TibetanPlateau.
@NetTibet @SaveTibetOrg
In other areas of the region, residents were told similarly that the collection of DNA was needed for general crime detection.

#Tibet is one of the clearest cases of institutional racism in the world today. China’s occupation has forced #Tibetans to live as second-class citizens in their own land.

Source: @SaveTibetOrg Image
As a result, discriminatory policies are enforced in #Tibet, like the relocation & forced resettlement of Tibetan nomads & herders' widespread repression of #Tibetan Buddhism & crackdowns on Tibetan communities after incidents of self-immolation.
#Tibetans cannot practice their religion freely, nor can they protect their culture and language in a meaningful way. Instead, they live under repressive laws that deem any expression of their identity as extremist or even terrorist. #Tibet #StopRacismAgainstTibetaninTibet

On the occasion of #TeachersDay2022, we would like to remember & highlight some instances of cruel suffering that #Tibetan teachers have been enduring at the hands of #CCP in #Tibet.
#CCP ordered the closure of Sengdruk Taktse school in Darlak in eastern #Tibet where #RinchenKyi was the longest-serving #teacher. Without giving any official reason she was taken from her home on charges of “inciting separatism”.

#TeacherInTibet @NetTibet @UNESCO @SaveTibetOrg
Kunkhen, a Tibetan #teacher was apprehended by #CCP at the age of 34 & in good health. When he was released on 21 August 2016, his eyesight & hearing were failing & lips gnarled. His waning vision could escalate into blindness. #JusticeForTibet

The celebration continues 2 or 3 days. The celebration includes religious ceremonies & mask dances performed by the monks in #Tibet.

Dra Yerpa hermitage, about 16km northeast of #Lhasa, is one of the holiest cave retreats. Among the many ascetics who have sojourned here are Guru Rinpoche & Atisha, the Bengali Buddhist who spent 12 years proselytizing in #Tibet.
@TibetPeople @TibetCouncil @AartiTikoo
Songtsen Gampo also meditated in a cave, after his #Tibetan wife established the first of Yerpa’s chapels. The peaceful site offers lovely views and is a great day trip from #Lhasa.

#OdeToDemocracy series continues.

We look at the milestones in the journey of #Tibetan Democracy in exile as #Tibetans celebrate 62nd #TibetanDemocracyDay.

The Deputies were initially assigned to various departments of the CTA and met twice a month. On 10 March 1963, His Holiness – after years of thorough consultations – promulgated the Constitution consisting of 10 chapters and 77 articles. #Tibet Image
The democratisation of the #Tibetan polity has long been an aspiration of His Holiness the 14th #DalaiLama. He had, in fact, initiated the reforms in #Tibet itself but this was interrupted due to China’s invasion in 1949/50. @Tibparliament Image
