In June, ๐บ๐ฆ gov't signed a $65mln contract with ๐ต๐ฑ for 72 ๐ฆ Krab howitzers, of which the first 18 have been "donated" ๐. In August @CNN reported that the Polish Krabs play a significant role in ๐บ๐ฆ defense, showing ๐บ๐ฆ soldiers praising the accuracy & modernity of the ๐ฆs.
๐ฆ is unique in that it combines an int'l consortium of designs. Weighing in at 58 t, the ๐ฆ is 12m long & 3.5m wide. It can reach a max speed of 60 km/h & has a range of 400km. It can fire at a rate of 6 rounds per min if necessary or sustain a steady barrage at 2 shells per min
๐ท๐บ invasion on ๐บ๐ฆ, has raised security fears among many of ๐ท๐บ's neighbours leading ๐ต๐ฑ to increase its defence spending to 3๏ธโฃ% of ๐๐๐ & more than ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ the size of its army to deter any attacks. ๐ฅ
๐ต๐ฑ has approved a $798 mln contract to purchase an additional 48 ๐ฆ howitzers & accompanying vehicles for the ๐ต๐ฑ Army. @mblaszczak, ๐ต๐ฑ Deputy and Defense MP confirmed the @PGZ_pl's Huta Stalowa Wola deal at the 30th International Defence Industry Exhibition MSPO in Kielce.
"It is important that we are consistently increasing the defense capabilities of ๐ต๐ฑ by developing both the numerical strength of the ๐ต๐ฑ Army and equipping it with modern equipment"
โ @mblaszczak explained
"I always emphasize that whenever we can, we order military equipment in the ๐ต๐ฑ arms industry. This is the case with ๐ฆ that proved themselves during the war. They are an important weapon in the hands of ๐บ๐ฆ, they are an effective weapon in the defense of Ukraine."
โ @mblaszczak
๐ต๐ฑ President @prezydentpl@AndrzejDuda expressed similar views:
"The time of peace has definitely ended, the time when wars were fought on other continents and when we looked at them only and exclusively through the prism of possible military contingents."
๐ฆ And so, ladies and gentlemen, may this "crustacean ๐งต" serve as an illustration of how the still way too often overlooked ๐ต๐ฑ has become a role model for army modernization and a European powerhouse of military aid to #Ukraine ๐ต๐ฑ๐ช๐ป๐บ๐ฆ
The Palace, erected as a result of the expansion of the 17th-century palace of Jan Andrzej Morsztyn (a leading poet of the Polish Baroque), was rebuilt many times in the following centuries. During the Second Polish Republic, it was the seat of the General Staff of the ๐ต๐ฑ Army.
After the destruction of the Palace by ๐ฉ๐ช, the only trace of it that remained was a fragment of the 3 central arcades with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldierโa symbolic grave commemorating the nameless soldiers who died in the defense of ๐ต๐ฑโ #PolishHistory#WW2#ReparationsForPoland
Less than 4๏ธโฃ years after the @BalticPipe_PL construction agreement was signed the #BalticPipe project is about to become operational on Oct 1 & will be filled with as much gas as is needed to make ๐ต๐ฑ independent from ๐ท๐บ
#BalticPipe is a strategic #gas infrastructure project with the goal of creating a new supply corridor in ๐ช๐บ market. The new pipeline will allow transport of gas from ๐ณ๐ด to the ๐ฉ๐ฐ and ๐ต๐ฑ markets, as well as to end users in neighboring countries.
Through the pipeline & the ลwinoujลcie LNG port, ๐ต๐ฑ would be able to bring in as much gas as the country currently requires โ 17 billion cubic meters a year. As a result, #Poland will not be at mercy of possible blackmail from #Russia.
In 2003 the organizers of ๐จ๐ญOpen gifted @rogerfederer with a ๐ฎ Julliette. "I'm going to learn how to milk it. I'll do anything for it" #Federer said back in the day. But what happened to the famous Moo thereafter? As a proud Permis B holder for years, let me give you the downlow
Roger #Federer quickly renamed his cow Ganga, and he soon became a proud bovine grandfather as Ganga gave birth to a calf. The calf was named Edelweiss. The duo, however, didnโt stay in the #Federer household for long. Ganga was sold at a livestock auction in Gstaad.
Unfortunately the fame didn't last long and in 2005 because of old age and lack of milk, Roger #Federerโs first cow was slaughtered.
Although much of the infrastructure within the borders of newly-independent ๐ต๐ฑ had been destroyed during #WWI, ๐ต๐ฑ was very quick to reestablish its railways. New lines sprang up allowing for economic development and integration.
The railways and their unification was not an easy task as some had to be rebuilt to standardise tracks across the lands of the former partitions. Finance was also a major issue: foreign capital was sought โ to little avail.
The adoption of the Act of 23 Sept 1922 on the construction of Gdynia port by ๐ต๐ฑ Parliament is considered the formal beginning of the port of Gdynia. The works on its establishment, however, commenced much earlier... ๐งต
The favourable int'l situation, the signing of the Treaty of Versailles & the restoration of ๐ต๐ฑ access to the sea constituted an incentive for the ๐ต๐ฑ gov to take action. The needs of the ๐ต๐ฑ trade were to be secured by the Free City of Gdaลsk, located within the customs area of ๐ต๐ฑ
In 1920 there was aย conflict regarding the blocking of shipment of arms to ๐ต๐ฑ during war w/๐ท๐บ, calling ๐ต๐ฑ warships at port. The need to build the own sea port became apparent. In 1920, Kazimierz Porฤbski appointed Mr Wenda, the engineer to choose the place to build aย future port.
#OTD, Sept 23, 1939, due to heavy artillery fighting Polish Radio @thenews_PL stopped broadcasting. Before this happened, listeners could listen one last time to a #Chopin concert performed by Wลadysลaw Szpilman.
Broadcasting the program was no longer possible without electricity from the Powiลle Power Plant.ย The damage was too extensive to allow for ongoing repairs. The audience had to say goodbye to the radio.
