A self-titled group of “patriots” launched an effort to crank call ⁦@DeptVetAffairs⁩ Veterans Crisis Line & urged supporters to clog the line with calls complaining #veterans arrested for the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot are being mistreated in custody. taskandpurpose.com/news/veterans-…
On Monday, the group held a live-streamed vigil outside the VA’s National Capital Regional Office in Washington, D.C. A man who identified himself as “Justin Johnson” urged 1776 Restoration Movement supporters to they could help the cause by calling the #veterans crisis line.
“Justin Johnson” said: “So, you dial 988 – they made it easier than ever to call. So, you dial 988 & then you press 1.” He put his phone up to the camera to show people the number to call & said: “So, let them know that there is inhumane treatment going on at the D.C. jail.”
In a video posted on #Twitter, “Justin Johnson”boasted his tactic of having callers flood the #Veterans Crisis Line was “pretty effective,” adding, “So, the trolls, they took the bait.” He also justified the attack by saying the Veterans Crisis Line is not the same as 911.
In his #Twitter video, “Justin Johnson” reportedly said: “I’ve called the crisis line before a few times & the first thing it tells you when you get on there is: If this is an emergency, please hang up and call 911.”
One person tweeted a text purportedly from a #veteran unable to get help because the Veterans Crisis Line was busy. “When I couldn’t get through I almost went through with my plan but then my mom intervened. This has real world consequences. I just pray nobody took their life.”

I encourage concerned @CuyahogaCounty residents to attend Tuesday’s @CuyahogaCouncil meeting & make a public comment at the beginning of the meeting. It starts at 5 pm at the County admin HQ at the 4th floor. You have 3 minutes to speak. #ARPA #RapeCrisis @clevelandrcc
I literally got a tension headache when I read this story. It was so well written I assumed @njKaitlinDurbin wrote it. But it was written by @clevelanddotcom’s new Stimulus Watch reporter @LucasDaprile.
As a #Parma resident, I’m surprised & embarrassed @ParmaMayor Tim DeGeeter, Parma City Council President Sean @BrennanForParma & @CuyahogaCouncil member Scott Tuma thought rebuilding the city’s golf course club house was a good use of #ARPA funds because they are good leaders.

This is going to be a long thread.🧵 #Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost released BCI case files from an officer-involved shooting last year in #Parma. He touted “full transparency” from the @OhioAG’s office. @DaveYostOH redacted names of 3 #SWAT officers who fired their weapons.
In June 2021, Kevin Giesel was shot & killed by officers from the Southwest Enforcement Bureau (SEB) #SWAT team during a 10-hour standoff at his house in #Parma. Giesel was a 64-year-old #Vietnam #veteran. He got into a shootout with #police officers. cleveland.com/court-justice/…
To be clear, I am in no way questioning why officers used deadly force or why a grand jury declined to indict the #police officers. I’m questioning the @OhioAG’s lack of transparency at a time when confidence in law enforcement is at an all-time low both in #Ohio & nationwide.

Today Ward 7 @CleCityCouncil member @stephaniehowse met with about 40 members of the East Side @HomelessCongres to listen to their concerns. Earlier this week Council President @Griff4CLE6 met with the West Side Homeless Congress. #HomelessCongress #HomelessLivesMatter
The @HomelessCongres presented @CleCityCouncil President Blaine Griffin & Ward 7 Council Member Stephanie Howse with a copy of the Congress’ proposed Homeless Bill of Rights.
This is the proposed Homeless Bill of Rights by #Cleveland’s #Homeless Congress. It is modeled after similar bills adopted by state legislatures in Rhode Island, Connecticut & Illinois. #HomelessBillofRights #HomelessLivesMatter

@ProsMikeOMalley I have a lot of respect for you & the leadership you’ve shown on the Justice Center Executive Steering Committee. But you were out of line at today’s Cleveland City Council Safety Committee meeting. It was not personally or professionally about you, sir.
The same council member has been asking the same questions of elected & unelected officials for months going back to the February budget hearings. She wants to focus on crime prevention. They aren’t “gotcha questions.” Nobody can answer her questions because the city & county…
… doesn’t operate that way. She & another passionate council member have asked for working groups to be created to look at things like crime prevention & police car deployment plans. I agree @ProsMikeOMalley that everyone should conduct themselves with decorum.
