BREAKING: #Armenia π¦π² and #Azerbaijan π¦πΏ have agreed to sign a formal peace deal which includes an official delimitation of the border by the end of the year.
This deal (if successfully followed through) would be a major diplomatic victory for the European Union.
Just last week intens negotiations between π¦π²π¦πΏ were taking place under π«π·πͺπΊ supervision. The Kremlin was completely left out of the process
News of a possible deal does not mean that peace in the #Caucasus is within reach. The #Kremlin could try to spoil an agreement, #Aliyev is still an expansionist authoritarian, and the future status of #NagornoKarabakh will probably remain undetermined.
It's important to stress that a peace deal between π¦π²π¦πΏ does NOT mean a peace deal in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Yerevan has always maintained that NKR is an independent actor and Baku should negotiate with Stepanakert directly.
This deal only entails the official borders
