Friday's daily thread covering #Russia's war on #Ukraine starts here

In the #UK, 4 November is/was "Mischief Night" (is that still a thing?); sadly every day's a nightmare for Ukrainians

It's Day 254
Coming up: pleas for help from people in Mariupol and a new #Bucha documentary
Firstly, thanks to Tony for buying me a coffee (and a bacon sandwich too!)
If you think I deserve a coffee, see my bio.

If you missed anything yesterday, here's the link:

It's 3am in #Mariupol where temps will dip to +2
While many other areas of #Ukraine don't have power, many residents in occupied Mariupol don't even have windows. Civilians still forced to live in ruined tower blocks, hang banners "Children freezing" & "Where are the windows"
A new documentary by some of the biggest organisations in journalism, shows the definitive truth about war crimes in #Bucha.

10 months ago #Russia's 'army' was committing appalling acts just outside #Kyiv

Graphic video:
#Ukraine's troops still defend valiantly in #Bakhmut.

The city is ruined. Some citizens still remain. So does humanity. Food is scarce, but always important to find enough for man's best friends.
In #Donetsk region, a house has been partially destroyed in #Makiivka (RU: #Makeevke)

Looks like a missile attack, but the Occupiers are silent so far.

#StandWithUkraine #RussiansGoHome
No photos but credible reports of a Russian base having been hit this morning in #Oleshka in #Kherson region.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
#Russia is employing troops to shoot its own troops if they try to retreat. It's so Hitleresque!
I thought we may have the first day of 1,000 Russian deaths in #Ukraine. In the event just short, but I think the second highest daily number of 🇷🇺soldiers killed in battle
#Ukraine's President will soon be (back) on @netflix

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a guest on the chat show "My next guest needs no introduction" hosted by legendary David Letterman.

The two chatted in a metro station.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
Occupied #Donetsk region - a missile has hit the town of #Horlivka.

No news yet on target or damage.

#StandWithUkraine
Last night I reported on the strike of a building in occupied #Makiivka.

#Russia says one woman died.
But if it was a #Ukraine hit, they've had very good intel and precision western weapons to pick off accommodation used by invading soldiers.

#Makeevka #RussianGoHome
A bridge in deepest Russia appears to be coming out in sympathy with the #Antonivskyi in #Kherson!

A big hole suddenly appeared here in #Orsk near the border with Kazakhstan
#Netherlands announces a new €120 million military aid package for #Ukraine.

The deal will include tanks and other weapons.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
Three more fires of some note in #Russia today.
1: one person died, 25 rescued in #Vladivostok
2: Blaze inside shopping centre in #Penza
3: #Ukyanovsk - big fire in new development.

#RussiaOnFire
A court in occupied #Sevastopol has declared 17 "missing" crew of the #Moskva dead.

But the law refuses to recognise them as victims of war or combat. Relatives would have to wait 2 years for that verdict.

More great news for #Ukraine from the #USA

The only worry may be the US midterms and if Republicans take back control they may stop the support.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia

Some networks in #Russia reporting explosions in #Taganrog. Initial reports were over an hour ago and nothing since.

Once previously during the war Taganrog lost power after similar reports. The city if about 50km from #Ukraine

Earlier today officials in Occupied #Kherson said there would be a "round-the-clock" curfew.
It seems there's been widespread anger even among troops, police and Russian sympathisers. The traitor Head has now been forced to deny new restrictions, the 22:00-05:00 curfew remains.
Today #Ukraine's cheeky postal service published another new stamp, this time called "#Crimea Bridge: the encore"

The official launch was on the "Klichko Bridge" in #Kyiv, which famously survived #Russia's recent missile attack.

Hahahahaha!
Upgrade works in progress in occupied #Donetsk!

Earlier today in the city centre they unveiled a signpost saying "To Russia 0 km"
By the evening it had disappeared!

#SlavaUkraini #DonetskIsUkraine
Sorry for delays replying to your messages. I've been busy on multiple fronts, including our team purchasing lots of gear for #Ukraine's soldiers with the donations you guys made.

Boots, thermal underwear and Goretex jackets the main request. Full details/photos in a few days
#Russia's installed administration in #Donetsk says 6 people died in the region today in shelling it says was carried out by #Ukraine.

3 of the deaths happened here at the Stirol plant, which manufactures nitrogen fertilisers and other chemical products.

#StopRussia
Love this! #Ukraine Patriots still very evident in temporarily occupied #Kherson.

This sign received a colour makeover this morning!

Plenty of war equipment too on the border with #Ukraine.

Two cruise missiles shot down over #Ukraine.

The country's recently improved air defences managed to hit the Kalibr missiles - one over #Mykolaiv and one in #Kherson region.

Ukrainian officials say they were fired by #Russia from the Black Sea

Russian channels reporting big explosions in #Pokorovsk in the #Ukraine controlled part of #Donetsk

They claim ammo has been exploding for 3-4 hours near the railway station.

Elon Musk is accused of switching off 1,300 Starlink terminals on #Ukraine's frontline last week.

The company wants the US govt to pay the bill. CNN quotes a member of #Ukraine's military saying they were "disconnected due to a lack of funding"

edition.cnn.com/2022/11/04/pol…
Quite a lot of drones have been buzzing over, and attacking, #Ukraine this evening.

#Vinnytsia #Dnipro and #Mykolaiv seem worst affected so far, but no reports of serious damage yet, except to the Iranian machinery

Welcome to yet another daily thread covering all things Ukraine and Russia.

It's Day 1195 and the day of the latest talks between the sides in Istanbul.

But all the buzz is still about one of the most incredible and successful military attacks ever, and Russia is hurting.
Ukraine's astonishingly well planned, daring and audacious attack is front page news around the world this morning.

If somehow you don't know what I am writing about, you're in for a treat. Re-live the extraordinary day by scrolling through Sunday's🧵⬇️

First important news from Poland where the Presidential election has been won by the anti-EU, anti-Ukraine candidate, right-wing Nawrocki

Despite gaining under than 51% of the vote, the tRUmp-aligned Nawrocki can now veto any legislation passed by @donaldtusk & the liberal govt Image

Day 1194 of Putin's war, though let's remember the initial invasion came 11 years ago.

Since February 2014, not once have western sanctions or military support come close to being enough to restore justice and defeat evil.

Welcome to THE daily 🇺🇦 thread for Sunday 1 June
A new day, a new season. Summer officially started, but nothing is likely to change just yet.

Y'day's thread had some great stories, but everything paled into insignificance when justy before midnight came news of a disaster in Russia's Bryansk region:
1/5
I want to start with events in Bryansk region.
What's happened is a tragedy even if you believe all Russians are partly to blame for the war.

7 people died - five passengers on a train and 2 in a truck. 69 were injured.

The lorry crashed down when the bridge collapsed.

Another night of no sleep yet - dramatic action in Moscow.

Time to start another daily thread covering everything to do with Putin's disastrous 'operation' in Ukraine.

It's 5am in Russia and Ukraine, on Day 1190 of the war.
Let's begin...
I've still NEVER missed even one day since the start of Russia's full invasion.

But yesterday's thread ended up being one of the most lively. Another near 50-post story of the day, and if you like seeing "bavovna" in Russia, go right through to the end!
1/3
Russia says 33 drones have been shot down approaching Moscow during the night.

The biggest incident is clearly this at the Mikron micro-electronics plant in Zelenograd, in Moscow oblast...

Hello again and welcome to the daily thread for Day 1189 of Russia's illegal war.

While media keep hinting Trump may be about to impose sanctions on Putin's regime, there's still evidence to say he hates Zelenskyy more.

All the news from and about Ukraine in one🧵right here:
As always though, in case you missed anything yesterday, blow is the link to the start of Monday's thread

So if you don't have much time online, just bookmark my profile page and you can always go back to where you left off for a summary of all the news
A much quieter night, but Russia still fired 60 drones into Ukraine. Air Defence managed to stop 43 (35 shot down and 8 disabled via EW)

But that still leaves 17 which made it through, at a very high strike rate of 28%

Good morning on Day 1176 of the war in Europe.
In my opinion, Ukraine should have won this war in 2022/23.

Effective leadership is based on good, decisive decisions. Sadly, the allies have never been decisive, preferring dithering and half measures.

Welcome to my daily thread:
What I mean by dithering is endless internal political battles in most countries to give adequate weapons. Scholz (Taurus), Biden (everything) the most obvious examples, though Joe was hampered by Congress and is way better than now

But it's always enough to survive, not to win
If you missed anything from yesterday, catch up with this link to the start of yesterday's thread. Scroll down to where you got to and complete your knowledge!

The start of a new week and simultaneously almost the end of 167 weeks of Russia's attempt to liberate Ukraine from its leader and remove the country from maps.

It's Day 1167 of Putin's full invasion. Welcome to Monday's daily thread.
First the link back to Sunday's thread for those who were busy y'day

It started with Ukraine counting the cost of yet more strikes on civilians and infrastructure but there were more strategic hits on Russia during the day, incl a night attack on Moscow.
If you were with me late last night, you will know about the ballistic missiles and big drone attack on Sumy.

I think Russia moved to attacking soft targets in big numbers.

A record 46% of UAVs were NOT stopped.
116 fired, just 42 shot down and 21 neutralised by EW.Image
