In 2019 #SanDiego#AlphaProject's Bob McElroy was on multiple IRS filings:
"Low income housing" for "Anaheim Gardens Corporation," and "Oxford Terrace"- and another for Alpha Project
He's running a multimillion #Homelessness Industrial Complex w/ multiple charities 1/
Their operations include exploiting people via "crew labor"-
People who are criminalized for #homelessness & arrested for encroachment violations are offered a chance to "work off" their penalties doing unpaid labor for Alpha Project 2/
Meanwhile people living in the #AlphaProject shelters had to wait weeks for safe drinking water, despite reports of "drinking water for clients/staff is coming out brown/yellow"
3/
"The [#AlphaProject] agency programs do not aim at making #homelessness easier, or less costly, or more tolerable..."
Monstrous. This is why people are dying on our streets every day and night: being #homeless shouldn't be easy, or tolerable. Make it expensive & brutal.
4/
Oddly- this return from 2017 describes their "primary unrelated business activity" as "PRODUCE A GREAT PRODUCT"- and was filed/time stamped in Ogden, UT

So disappointed to hear @KPBS#MiddayEdition hosting #BobMcElroy from #AlphaProjectSD
Have they reviewed his salary & tax returns?
Taxpayers subsidize his shelters w/horrible conditions
Few people get #housing after a shelter stay
He mentions his staff struggles to afford rent-
Perhaps he could demonstrate "personal responsibility" by not driving a Maserati?
Or reduce his $245K salary & pay caseworkers doing direct services more so they aren't #housing insecure? #SOTCSD#MayorToddGloria#homelessness 2/
Let's review @MayorToddGloria's previous #SOTCSD remarks, what he said- and what he did not say- and how people reacted. 1) 2022- He never mentioned how @SanDiegoPD routinely criminalize people for being unhoused and/or needing to use a bathroom
2) But @MayorToddGloria has pledged things like:
Transparency (see: Ash Street)
Fiscal responsibility (Also- see Ash St. $175M bond)
And equity (See: lack of #EEOC contract compliance)
"Transitional" skills training for #fossilfuel workers
Lots of money related to higher education, #Climate, #transportation
UC bonds->cash
$48 billion for climate related spending on top of previous $48B from federal funding
Providing medical treatment, counseling, and treating unsheltered/unhoused people humanely is the first step in preventing many of these "horror stories" and conflicts. Many people living on San Diego's sidewalks are survivors of abuse, assault, and violence.
Rape and domestic violence are a leading cause of homelessness for women and children. They need help to move past these experiences and PTSD behaviors that can be triggered by street experiences, and result in aggressive reactive behavior.
FYI: As you talk w/unsheltered people, many are stuck in a recurring #PTSD loop, actively reliving past trauma
They may become- or be perceived as- a threat to others when they are actually struggling to survive/process a sexual assault or other abuse (including police sweeps) 1/
I often hear stories of surviving violence from unsheltered people talking to themselves:
"Get away from me!"
"Leave me alone"
"Get your d-ck out of my face!"
"I don't want to do that..."
It's horrifying- and all too common
+ #SanDiegoPD sweeps can trigger memories of abuse 2/
Imagine someone invades your personal space, gives you orders & refuses to listen to you.
If you've been in this situation before & were injured- those memories can overwhelm your ability to respond to what's happening in "real time"
Result: Behavior based on survival #PTSD
