So let's make this fun & do some inside baseball,

For example, how did the Daily Wire get so big,

Besides the quality of content, what did they do that others failed to
This is common practice btw, I'm just using Daily Wire as an example, I like the outlet fine

But in our modern world of news, it's not enough to just have your outlet post articles on your website

popular.info/p/facebook-all…
What Daily Wire understood early on was that to make it big in news, U must make it big in social media,

U must go where the folks actually are so you must strongly emphasize & push into sites like Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, etc

socialmediatoday.com/news/meta-rele…
So Daily Wire would create & engage with Facebook groups, they would "spam" as many conservative newsgroups & pages as they could get away with,

Operate w/ social media workers & really push the content into feeds emphasizing personalities

& it worked
npr.org/2021/07/19/101…
combination of great 30-second soundbite posts,

an emphasis on personalities like Ben Shapiro & ubiquity of the content in social media played a key role in getting the Daily Wire to explode into popularity as it did

washingtonpost.com/technology/202…
Remember, Daily Wire didn't exist prior to 2016,
Yet it outshines it's competitors by leaps & bounds today in popularity & page views,

& a big factor is how they did that was by leveraging social media to get their content directly to people
Why does this matter,

Because the news industry learned that it's not enough to just do good journalism or make clickbaity stuff,

If people don't see it on their favorite social media platform, it's unlikely they never will
A key job at any big outlet is the social media team,
people whose job it is to make sure that content gets to people,

A part of that job is to leverage things like Facebook groups or Reddit posts to subs,

Some use spam networks, others hire cheap posters from Bangladesh, etc
it varies from company to company & what strategy their team wants to use,

But it means that places like Reddit or Facebook,

ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to getting the work that writers put in front of eyeballs
A big part of the world of news relies on social media platforms,

past "virality" which U could define as posts that generate traffic by themselves

(which often are created at great expense by the social media team anyways)

its why censorship on social media matters so much
so when Prager U sues Facebook,
this is a big part of the reason why,

it isn't just that it stifles views on videos, but it prevents a lot of content they've created from going BIG

businessinsider.com/youtube-google…
A long-time theory of mine is that a reason the mainstream media fought so hard to stop @elonmusk from purchasing Twitter

companies understood the viral-news machinery would no longer be stacked in their favor

& they'd have to compete w/ the rest of us
nytimes.com/2022/12/04/bus…
a world exists under the one audience knows where talented professionals work to make the media U read & consume more popular than it would be otherwise

difference between good & great traffic

& why @elonmusk buying Twitter was such a big deal for news

theobjectivestandard.com/2022/12/what-t…
So when U hear a journo or news media professional complain about Reddit censorship or Facebook bans,

isn't just a free-speech issue (which it is) but it's also how it stifles legitimate news from getting to the people it can most help

#news #freespeech
To some degree, this applies to all content creators, but I'm not as familiar with the world of YouTube or Instagram as I am newsmedia,

But yeah, often the difference between success or failure for a media project can be based on if it was allowed on social media, or not
And it's probably true,

it you want to make it in whatever media field you work in, you learn how to leverage & take advantage of social media

some feel I softball Adam Sessler here in this article,

that I wasn't harsh enough or that I was burying the story: that Adam Sessler hates gamers

here is why that is wrong
clownfishtv.com/adam-sessler-s… #adamsessler #g4tv #videogames #gamers #gaming
When I cover a story about something a subject says, I try to not only cover the story factually but I also try to keep to the spirit of the issue

From the subject's point of view, what are they trying to say here? Not only what are the comments, but what do they mean.
e.g
yes, Adam Sessler says he hates gamers,

but if U listen to when he clarifies, he says he means people that identify w/ the hobby not everyone that plays games

Yes, for most it's a meaningless distinction, but it's a distinction nonetheless & not reporting it isn't truthful

ever notice how Reddit mods don't censor posts until they start getting traction, & the reason is usually a very ill-defined rule that's completely subjective??

And if U call them out on it, U never once hear back🤔
#reddit #socialmedia #health #medtwitter @Reddit
To @Twitter & @facebook credit they do give a reason (often a bullcrap one) why Ur post got removed

Reddit doesn't have to do that, sometimes the only thing you did wrong is that Ur post was popular & that's enough

#reddit #socialmedia #freespeech
Sometimes a rule gets cited for a removal
but sometimes there's nothing at all🤷‍♂️

it's been how many years since the Affordable Health Care Act was passed & then got hollowed out

So why in the world are there still eligibility periods for applying for insurance🤦
If almost can get an excuse to waive away the insurance enrollment period requirement, why is it still there???

why hasn't congress at least made that one tiny change🤔
And why push millions of people to apply for insurance on healthcare.org

and worse, benefits when applicants cannot afford any of the options & there was never a chance of benefits, to begin with

Why have we allowed this farce to go on for over a decade??

The stuff with Adam Sessler was incredibly interesting imo
Ended up overnighting this one,

That interview was so chock full of new info categorizing the information so putting together the write up took considerably more effort than I anticipated 😅

Totally worth it
It's interesting the G4TV reboot has legs some almost 5 months since it shut down

Comcast really failed to understand how attached people were to that brand

interview w/ Adam Sessler @TheBPITU is solid,

masterful in how they got Sessler to open up about topics he wasn't comfortable talking about

At times Sessler was a riot
a funny guy w/ a starring affability.

Too bad he's become so cynical,
Seems like a waste of talent😨 ImageImage
Watching @italianpepsiman & @dickmasterson bring out that old Sessler shine reminds us why we loved him on X-play,

back in the day, he really was good at his job
#gamers #gaming #g4tv #adamsessler
The saddest part for me of all this,

is that Adam cannot see genuine admiration or kindness from people who actually do like him & wish him well.

There's no friendly way to put this:

The new CDC Opioids Guidelines are a farce when it comes to saving patients' lives.

usatoday.com/story/opinion/… #chronicpain #opioids #opioidcrisis #fentanyl #lawenforcement #drugs #politics #health #disability #disabled #cancer #addiction #pain
The CDC 2022 update is not meant to reform the guidelines

It's meant to absolve the CDC of guilt & wash its hands of an opioid prohibition & crisis it helped create

usatoday.com/story/opinion/… @elizableu @yashar @chadfelixg @conor64 @lhfang @stillgray @joerogan @TaylorLorenz
Christopher Jones, acting director of CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention & Control

Said the guideline is about "improving the lives of patients living with pain.”

Then why did the CDC push further & deeper restrictions against patients?
