Here is my daily thread number 351 on the #Russia-#Ukraine war. One for each day of the war.
News and analysis of all events covering #Putin's illegal war.
Yesterday's thread was limited by Twitter.
I (and most others) were unable to post after 9.30pm UK time. #StandWithUkraine
In case you were wondering about that tweet which couldn't be loaded, I found it quite amusing as Chancellor Scholz went straight past his flag and to the #Ukraine lectern before being corrected by Zelenskyy!
President @ZelenskyyUa is now arriving in #Brussels to meet EU officials as he continues his mission to get fighter aircraft for #Ukraine.
We've had almost a year now and it really angers me that no-one foresaw this. We never truly protected Ukraine as Russia controls the skies.
#Russia has now lost over 135,000* soldiers, dead in the disastrous illegal invasion #Ukraine.
Not many equipment losses today, but again more than 900 sacrificial lambs to Tsar Putin.
* Ukraine estimates.
Founder of #Wagner (though he denied it for years), Yevgeniy Prigozhin has "announced" they are no longer recruiting prisoners. So,
1) No one else is stupid enough to sacrifice their lives 2) The only benefit of the war for #Russia is saving a ton of money locking up prisoners.
I cannot verify this, but the photo is reportedly of a queue for bread in Occupied #Mariupol'
The British MOD says no-one should plann an offensive in difficult weather conditions.
However, Putin doesn't care about conditions or tactics. Like Hitler, he won't accept "no" or "retreat".
The 24 Feb anniversary and the start of spring on 1 March are near, he demands results
The Russian run KHL ice hockey league, has told the team from #Novosibirsk to stop its fans from chanting "glory to Siberia" during the Russian national anthem.
Meanwhile, in #Novosibirsk today a suspected gas explosion in a block of flats.
As a result, the entrance completely collapsed . At least two people died and seven more were injured.
#Russia's Occupiers in #Berdyansk release a long video (I've edited this down) showing how they foiled an "assassination attempt" on collaborators
There are separate videos of two arrested men "admitting" to their crimes obviously under duress.
Just a bit surprised no Mein Kampf
President @ZelenskyyUa begins his speech in the European Parliament in Brussels with "Slava Ukraini"
Some German media already report that #Zelenskyy did enough to convince both Scholz and Macron to provide fighter jets to #Ukraine.
If this is true it will at last be something I would call a potential game changer. As long as the game is still in progress. Speed of the essence.
A standing ovation again for #Zelenskyy as he finishes his speech in Brussels, also ending with the words "Slava Ukraini"
The President of the European Parliament presents Zelenskyy with a flag of the EU.
The Ukraine national anthem is now being played in Brussels.
In #Kyiv's beautiful Mariinskyi Park, work is already underway to remove the statue of Vatunin.
Nikolai Vatutin was a WWII Soviet Commander, operating mainly in Ukraine, helping to fight off the Nazis, but keeping #Ukraine under subjugation by Moscow.
A fire in a prison has killed two convicts.
Surely just coincidence that no more prisoners are "volunteering" to sacrifice themselves in the war?
Ran out of characters - Thanks to @CarolynnePries1 for spotting the last story.
...
News just in - the 2025 World Swimming Championships, scheduled for #Kazan in #Russia have been moved by the governing body FINA, to #Singapore.
Following rumours that #Germany and #France will offer #Ukraine fighter jets, the Head of the President's Office in #Ukraine, @AndriyYermak has just said "The issue of long-range weapons and fighter jets for Ukraine has been resolved."
✈️🤞🇺🇦
Since 2 December, the number if #Russia's troops killed in #Ukraine has increased 50%.
That means a third of all 135,000 deaths happened in the last 69 days of the 351 day war.
Sad to learn that under Elon Musk's new plans for Twitter many, useful, automated services such as thread unroll, earthquake monitors, ground flash reports and possibly vid translators will all likely be unavailable as he starts charging them for automated tweets. @TwitterLive
Astonishing photos from near #Vuhledar in #Donetsk. There's an obsession to, or a fear of not, delivering Donetsk to Putin by the anniversary in 2 weeks.
Another #Russia unit decimated and no fewer than 31 T-72B3 tanks, BMP 1/2, MT-LB + 1 IMR were destroyed.
#Ukraine is being menaced by Iranian "mopeds" again.
There's an air raid alert in many regions with multiple drones reported in #Zaporizhzhia district now.
The fear is that drone "attacks" recently have been a precursor to a large scale missile attack the next day or two.
Wow! #Ukraine has confirmed this and it turned out to be significant.
The strikes were on #Berdyansk airport.
Ukraine claims 100 invaders were destroyed.
A warehouse with ammunition and fuel plus a radar station were also damaged.
Remember the smiling widows and mothers who got given fur coats to make up for their pain? Even then #Russia can stoop lower...
They took back the coats, one widow says, pretending they were getting better quality ones and now no-one answers their calls.

Hello again.
Day 1552. A holiday in many countries "Whit Monday" in most, Spring holiday in others (inc UK) and Memorial Day in the U.S
But after 4 years and 3 months, memorials are still being made in Ukraine because our leaders, collectively, let them down.
Here's the daily🧵
I'm still not quite sure where Saturday ended and Sunday began - the days merged into one for me.
What I do know is there were >120 new posts over the 48 hours, that's an average one story every 24 minutes, over the entire two days.
1/2 There are new murderous attacks by Russia already today in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Explosions have been heard in the city of Dnipro after an alert for ballistic missiles. Smoke can be seen, but no initial news of widespread damage, so hopefully air defence did its job.
Here we go again then. Day 1550 of Ukrainians wondering if they, their home, their relatives, will be bombed today.
About 16 million people have been born in the US and 15m in the EU since Russia started its full invasion of Ukraine.
Welcome to Saturday's daily🧵
Friday was a cracking thread, with vodka cheaper than a single tomato, legless Russians celebrating, Moscow claiming a college in occupied Luhansk wasn't housing Rubicon pilots and their drones and Ukraine causing more mayhem deep inside Russia.
#UkraineSanctions have been successfully employed again!
Lots of action in Russia last night, even before I closed the thread. Around 8am this morning another Ukraine strike in Perm' region, a distance of about 1700km.
Putin's gone from the expected capture of Kyiv before the end of Feb 2022 & annihilation of Ukraine's leaders & the country's culture, to begging China to keep it afloat & trying to quell dissenters at home as bombs fall!
The daily🧵
A quick reminder, everything I do is free. No extra content behind paywalls or subscriptions.
Every single day, documenting everything important about the war and about Ukraine. Still never missed a day. If you are able to support here's the link:
Wednesday 20 May is Day 1547 of Putin's catastrophic full invasion of its peaceful neighbour.
Russia has lost a large part of a generation of men - dead, dying or those who managed to emigrate. Reserves spent, economy collapsing.
Putin, not Zelenskyy, is Russia's biggest enemy
Let's start the daily thread in the traditional manner with the link for the start of Tuesday's thread.
A lot more destruction on both sides, as Putin grovels in China. Click, but remember to come back for today's news...
Welcome to THE daily thread on Day 1546 of the war.
Russia is showing small signs of desperation.
More economic woes, more Ukraine air attacks deep inside Russia, a desperation to strengthen ties with allies and having to make new nuclear threats.
All the news in one place:
Here's the link back to the start of Monday's thread for those catching up.
A day when Russia lost more equipment, including a helicopter, but also bombed the hell out of Dnipro, while the EU looks for a lead negotiator to meet Putin.
One thing I learned last night I'll repost here as very few people saw it last night, and for Ukraine watchers it's very interesting and potentially important.
Will Zelenskyi dare fire Zaluzhnyi so he has no platform in the run up to an election?
I've now had confirmation of one fatality in Russia's attack on Kyiv.
The injury count is now up to 16.
This is a video from first responders, trying to rescue those trapped in a collapsed apartment building in the Darnytskyi district.
Air alerts are beginning to be lifted in more regions of Ukraine.
Among those is Khmelnytskyi, where there was a drone swarm on the military airbase. No damage is reported.
