2/13. The #AR6 Synthesis Report and it's Summary for Policymakers will condense all of the scientific evidence from the reports of the @IPCC_CH working group's and all special reports published between 2018 and 2022.
3/13. For example the @IPCC_CH #AR6 Working Group II report made the following key points on #LossAndDamage very clear:
1⃣Human-induced #ClimateChange has already caused #LossAndDamage to both nature and people;

4/13. 2⃣ #LossAndDamage is unequally distributed across systems, regions and sectors and is not comprehensively addressed by current financial, governance and institutional arrangements, particularly in vulnerable developing countries;
5/13. 3⃣ #LossAndDamage is escalate with every increment of #GlobalWarming;
4⃣ Urgent action that would limit global warming to 1.5°C would reduce future #LossAndDamage but cannot eliminate it completely;

6/13. The new #AR6 Synthesis Report, and particularly the Summary for Policymakers, to be released on Monday, are designed to give policymakers an overview of the state of knowledge on the science of #ClimateChange.
7/13. The key insights offered by these new documents will play an important role in informing the work of the Transitional Committee of the #LossAndDamage Fund and their work to operationalise a (fit-for-purpose) #LossAndDamage Fund at #COP28.
8/13. Whilst also upping pressure to agree to phase out all #FossilFuels at #COP28* as the reports are expected to reiterate that the window for keeping temperatures below 1.5ºC is rapidly closing and current climate pledges put the world on a pathway to 2.8ºC of warming by 2100.
9/13. *Mitigation, is still the most effective way to reduce future #LossAndDamage. Whilst the decision to establish a #LossAndDamageFund at #COP27 was a historic much-needed win, progress on reducing emissions was non-existent.
10/13. Importantly, this new #AR6 Synthesis Report and its Summary for Policymakers will be the last ones from the @IPCC_CH until further reports are published under the next assessment cycle, which could be as late as 2027 or 2028.
11/13. Ultimately, the new reports will once again highlight that the nations most responsible for the #ClimateCrisis must substantially increase their mitigation efforts as well as contributions to #ClimateFinance for #Mitigation & #Adptation, and agree to #LossAndDamage funds.
12/13. Whilst major polluting industries such as #FossilFuel corporations and the governments who countries to support their expansion must continue to be held to account for their role in the #ClimateCrisis and made to #PayUp4LossAndDamage!
