Thursday 6 April 2023, which happens to be Day 407 of #Russia's illegal war on #Ukraine.
Aa always, all the news, all day, in one handy thread. Soon I'll have more on the breaking news in #Russia of violence in an insurgent southern region.
The Occupiers say they shot down all 6 HIMARS missiles. However, #Ukraine's exiled Mayor of the city says there was huge damage for the occupiers, and locals report many ambulances heading to the military camp near the airfield.
A councillor in #Russia has been fined 30,000 rubles ($375) for writing “The grave of men, the widowhood of women, the orphanisation of children” against the backdrop of Russia's flag.
It's true, but Vladimir Lyubimov, an elected official in #Ivanovo was "discrediting the army."
Not a very warm welcome to learn his counterpart Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos confirmed #Greece will NOT hand over Leopard-2 tanks or Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems.
Locals in #Melitopol post photos of missile wreckage in the streets of Pischanaya district.
They also report hearing rockets fly over their heads during the night.
The allegation is that #Russia's air defence is set up in residential areas, with frequent damage to houses/roads
#Russia says the #Ukraine light aircraft pilot crashed into power lines in #Bryansk yesterday because he was flying as low as possible, in order to avoid radar detection.
It could be true, or it could be an attempt to cover-up the failings of air defence and monitoring.
#Ukraine jounalists find "Pasha Mercedes" the head of the Moscow-aligned church has multi-million dollar properties in addition to his luxury cars & Swiss watches.
His 40-acre plot in #Voronkiv cost $1.3m in 2016, while he also owns a big house in #Kyiv
A 4-day holiday weekend coming up in the UK and many other countries around the world.
But no rest for me, the daily threads will continue as they always have including Christmas, New Year and all holidays.
#Russia claims #Ukraine has lost "15,000 to 20,000 people in Artemovsk" the Russian name for #Bakhmut.
Yan Gagin, adviser to the acting head of the so-called #Donetsk Republic also denied reports that Ukrainian forces have recaptured several positions in the #Avdiivka area.
1/2 The girl who drew this picture has been removed from an orphanage & reunited with her mother.
Masha Moskaleva was 12 when her school reported her to police for the artwork. It says Glory to Ukraine, Glory to the Heroes and No to Putin's war.

Masha's single parent father Aleksey was jailed for 2 years. Her mother had nothing to do with her since she was 2 years old.
But just days after Prigozhin intervened to say the girl shouldn't be in state care, the now 13 year old is with mum Olga.
Again trying to foment hatred and trouble, media in #Russia are spreading a FAKE that Ukrainians burned down a church of the Moscow-Patriarch in #Mykolaiv (RU: #Nikolaev) region.
But the video is from 2013 and of a church in the Russian village of Ilyinka.
Russians returning from abroad are being quizzed by the FSB soon after their return.
#Russia's Mobilization News channel reports young men are being made to explain their actions after fleeing mobilsation. Some are being forced home after visas expired.

If this is a another bluff from #Ukraine disguising a forthcoming offensive elsewhere, it's very convincing becuase it sure looks like Melitopol is being softened up.
RIA Melitopol says an enemy base in the Vesely district was hit.
💙💛Thank you for the latest donations💙💛
Constance and @ninanips bought me "Ko-Fi" via the link in my profile.
Your support is really vital to enable me to give so much time to relaying the news and truth from #Ukraine and beyond.
Now there is no way of verifying this story, so it comes with that warning to beware of propaganda and make up your own mind.
#Ukraine says 3,000 of #Russia's troops voluntarily surrendered during March, over twice the levels seen at the end of 2022.
There were vague reports of explosions before the flames took hold. Local police in the village of Perovo say it's just an empty building at a chicken ranch!
Day 1194 of Putin's war, though let's remember the initial invasion came 11 years ago.
Since February 2014, not once have western sanctions or military support come close to being enough to restore justice and defeat evil.
Welcome to THE daily 🇺🇦 thread for Sunday 1 June
A new day, a new season. Summer officially started, but nothing is likely to change just yet.
Y'day's thread had some great stories, but everything paled into insignificance when justy before midnight came news of a disaster in Russia's Bryansk region:
Another night of no sleep yet - dramatic action in Moscow.
Time to start another daily thread covering everything to do with Putin's disastrous 'operation' in Ukraine.
It's 5am in Russia and Ukraine, on Day 1190 of the war.
Let's begin...
I've still NEVER missed even one day since the start of Russia's full invasion.
But yesterday's thread ended up being one of the most lively. Another near 50-post story of the day, and if you like seeing "bavovna" in Russia, go right through to the end!
Good morning on Day 1176 of the war in Europe.
In my opinion, Ukraine should have won this war in 2022/23.
Effective leadership is based on good, decisive decisions. Sadly, the allies have never been decisive, preferring dithering and half measures.
Welcome to my daily thread:
What I mean by dithering is endless internal political battles in most countries to give adequate weapons. Scholz (Taurus), Biden (everything) the most obvious examples, though Joe was hampered by Congress and is way better than now
But it's always enough to survive, not to win
If you missed anything from yesterday, catch up with this link to the start of yesterday's thread. Scroll down to where you got to and complete your knowledge!
The start of a new week and simultaneously almost the end of 167 weeks of Russia's attempt to liberate Ukraine from its leader and remove the country from maps.
It's Day 1167 of Putin's full invasion. Welcome to Monday's daily thread.
First the link back to Sunday's thread for those who were busy y'day
It started with Ukraine counting the cost of yet more strikes on civilians and infrastructure but there were more strategic hits on Russia during the day, incl a night attack on Moscow.
