Thoughts before bed (my first thread): too easy to measure your worth on false premises: productivity, physical perfection, 💰, social cache
We hold ourselves to impossible standards, meanwhile feeling less & less worthwhile bc the metric we've chosen is designed never to satisfy
But there's never been a better time to find new ways to calculate your value...
Being of service to people who are marginalized and abused by this administration is a high high calling and we are all being called.
Take care of yourself (you can't pour from an empty cup) take care of friends and family (they are your army) then pick up proverbial sword.
So many of us have struggled to understand our purpose and value. It's right in front of us & it's radical love, fighting for each other.
Not to be a Pollyanna but I'm full to the brim with the belief that people can change the world with their words, art, money, time, actions.
This is a place to find purpose, to abandon old illusions and to practice loving compassion. Sending you all my ❤️.

Hard out here for Gen X, no one cares about us. We are just that small generation wedged between the Boomers and Millenials. Just the invisible middle aged schlubs in the corner.
The thing is, that prospects for most Gen Xers aren't all that much better than for the Millenials except we bought into the dreams and so here we are with kids, houses, and realizing that when we start retiring, we are going to be screwed.
You wake up in your late 30's-mid 40's and start to see the handwriting on the wall. You might be doing okay now but you are going to be saddled with debt until the day you die. That's hoping your kids actually can afford to leave your house and your parents don't need help.

My heart, my soul has been through so much over this past year & it's been a struggle trying to take care of me while still trying to take care of our youth, our people & advocating for justice. It's so overwhelming at times but I'm glad that I'm stubborn & strong enough to do it
But today, as I was talking to my therapist, he said something that hit me hard. "Be a role model, be an advocate, be whatever you want to be..but don't forget you're only human, too. Don't hold yourself to impossible standards of wellness and strength. You're still healing."
It got me thinking about the friends and advocates that we've lost to suicide this year and maybe we do hold ourselves to impossible standards of wellness and strength because we get so caught up in trying to meet the needs of others, we forget to take care of ourselves.
