2/x Reconstruction. I spend my days discussing every single enforcement statute Congress passed under the 13 14 and 15th amdts, beginning
3/x the first freedmen bureau bill Lincoln proposed before the end of the war all the way to the civil rights act of 1875. I've spent years
4/x studying every Supreme Court case of that era from Blyew to U.S v Harris. I've spend an inordinate amount of time looking at the
5/x constitutional conventions every former confederate state called after reconstruction in order to write new constitutions to enshrine
6/x racial apartheid into their systems. I've studied every line of the black codes these states produced. And after all of that, permit me
7/x me to tell you your points simply have no basis in history, law or fact. The reconciliation you speak of was achieved and designed only
8/x after it was decided that the price for it was to consign blacks to second class citizenship. Just do me one favor: look up how many
9/x blacks were in congress in 1875. Then look up how many there were in 1945. Then try to explain to yourself what happened in those
10/x 70 years to explain the difference. I can assure you there is no honest intellectual way to "reconcile" those 70 years with the
11/x arguments you've made on Twitter. We can have our disagreements over politics but if we are going to be intellectually honest adults,
12/12 some historical truths are hard to deny. This has been a bit of a rant but as Obama would say: come on man!!!!!
