after an entire comic run where sam wilson ran away from problems, acted in passivity, and then got "big ups" for taking the shield back...
...and after secret empire 10 ended with THIS page, hailing him as some great fucking hero...
...and in that *same fucking comic*, has sam actively avoid directly fighting HydraSteve and stops others from doing so...
...after all this bullshit, Sam Wilson doesn't get a single moment in the spotlight, of *mattering* in Secret Empire: Omega?
nick spencer writes a whole fucking to do about sam running away from the shield, but he is actually the *real* captain america...
...in the end he is given no real significance in the story at all? he just gets the shield handed back and there's an action figure of him?
what is this bullshit? are we supposed to buy that sam wilson is this great hero from spencer while he refuses to let him shine at all?
and now after all this, for whatever fucking reasons, he's going back to being the falcon and steve is cap again.

what a crock of shit!
he doesn't get to even *fight* evil steve! he actively lets steve get the big moment and holds himself back from even helping!
his feelings, his emotions, his personal journey, for all this, is thrown out because the "real" captain america is back now!
congrats, nick spencer! you wrote a story where sam wilson runs away from everything until steve rogers can fix the problems!
holy shit i didn't even expect this to be the primary thing i was mad about in omega.

i feel that fortnite thread is kinda saying a bit of the obvious, so i'll inject a lil that goes unsaid: of course kids are gonna flock to digital spaces to hang out as people make it more and more impossible for kids to use physical spaces to hang out at all
the amount of laws and police enforcement and tech like fucking "sound frequencies that only kids can hear to buzz horribly and try to keep them out" to keep youth from Doing Anything Anywhere will of course result in having to find spaces elsewhere, and that accelerates in games
part of the reason is of course just People Like Playing Video Games but more and more public places are closed off to youth for use of any kind - i spent tons of time online myself as a kid, but i was Just That Way. there's less physical spaces for kids who aren't like i was

thinking about how a lot of people's trouble with wrapping their heads around nazis as an actual threat is the thought that "if there was really a problem, the cops would take care of it", followed by the inability/unwillingness to believe that cops would actually support them
cops have massive latitude to beat the shit out of most anybody with little to no consequences and that this is almost never used against various flavors of white supremacists would say something obvious, but so many people just can't/won't grip around "the cops like the nazis"
thoughts of how the ACLU couldn't seem to understand how the cops wouldn't do their job at the Charlottesville hate rally - they seemed utterly baffled that police might favor a white supremacist organization over those protesting them

widespread total disbelief of reality

On the night of November 9, 1938, the Nazis destroyed synagogues and the shop windows of Jewish-owned stores throughout Germany and Austria - an event now known as the Kristallnacht pogrom or Night of Broken Glass.
The German authorities looked on without intervening. The windows of Jewish-owned stores, buildings, and synagogues were smashed.

Estimates of the number of fatalities caused by the pogrom have varied. Early reports estimated that 91 Jews were murdered during the attacks.

Time for some Torah on what influences, hampers, shapes the liberatory imagination.

A thread.

First, some background.

After King Solomon died (926 BCE), his son Rehoboam didn't do a great job of handling things and the united monarchy split into two--Judah & Israel.
In 740 and then 722 BCE, Israel was conquered by the Assyrians. Many were forcibly located (this generally understood to be when the 10 "lost" tribes were dispersed), incl many refugees coming into Judah, bringing the ideas they had developed separately from Judah w/them.
At the same time, in 735 BCE, the Assyrians conquered Judah and made it a vassal state of Assyria. (The siege of Jerusalem happened in 701 as a response to a Judaean insurrection against the Assyrians, we're not getting into that now).

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."

Time to talk about #InfinityWar. I'll keep the hashtag in all tweets.
#InfinityWar is the culmination of 10 years of building a whole connected universe of movies. It is an incredible feat. And all of that was to make it even more devastating to watch it all collapse.
I don't know what their plans are for Avengers 4. But the MCU is effectively changed as of #InfinityWar. It'll be like TV where the second to last episode is really the season shocker. The season finale is just about wrapping up and setting up next season.

This seems like a good place to mention that the US Bureau of the Census likes to talk about how strict they are about privacy, even once turning away FBI agents who arrived at the Colorado Springs BOC office with a warrant for confidential Census data. But...
...during WWII the BOC provided block-by-block data on people of Japanese ancestry for the purpose of sending them to concentration camps, something that was officially denied or simply ignored until records research confirmed it in 2000. And...
...in 1943, the BOC provided specific names and addresses of all persons of Japanese ancestry in the Washington DC area, on the request of the US Treasury Secretary, which was also denied until further research confirmed it in 2007.
