I don't know you but I do. It worked until I became allergic to it (Crohn's). I've had 4 surgeries in 34 years. They're very rough.
The problem is if you start immunosuppression too late you'll end up having to have surgery anyway. Medication may delay that tho.
So it's worth a try, in my view. But I'd look toward more modern incarnations like Humira and Cimzia. (I'm allergic to that entire class)
Humira, for example is a "humanized" monoclonal antibody. That means human cells are used to make it. Mouse cells are used for Remicade.
The use of non-human cells to make it increases the chances of starting with or developing an allergic response.
definitely discuss the options and risks with your doctor first. Also visit ccfa.org. They have lots of info.
As for what to expect from surgery. They make an incision up the middle of your abdomen. It takes 5-7 days before you're out of the hospital
You will be on pain meds the entire time you're in the hospital You will need them. recovery involves walking every day. It hurts like hell.
But you have to do it. You also have special breathing exercises. They hurt like hell too. This pain will break through the meds you get.
The meds will help reduce its effects. They will not remove the pain entirely. Also when I say walking, you actually start by shuffling.
You will NEED a nurse or assistant present the first few times as you re-learn how to walk.
Once you're at home this pattern of regular exercise (walking) will continue. You will be weaned off the pain meds. Things will hurt.
After about 6 weeks you will be able to resume a desk job. Full time may be pushing it. That varies by patient.
If you were involved in vigorous exercise on par with Karate...etc. You will be advised to wait a full year before resuming.
With all of that said if, like i had, you have a pencil erasers width or less for food to move through. Surgery is a very good option.
Best of luck! I hope they get it under control and keep you in remission!
