Can we talk about the ongoing national security threat posed by the President's @Twitter feed, @jack?
Because @twitter won't / can't police its users, a significant proportion of them are bots. Estimates range from 9-15% of accounts on the platform.

Foreign adversaries can use bots to get messages in front of the President that he will retweet, and those tweets have serious international consequences.
The State Department warned the White House that the President's retweeting of anti-Muslim propaganda was creating increased risk of attack to US diplomats overseas.
The President's anti-Muslim tweets and subsequent responses have furthered a trans-Atlantic rift with America's closest ally, Great Britain.

The President's twitter access poses a serious and ongoing national security threat, and it is only a matter of time until someone is seriously hurt or killed because of it.

I would be happy to debate the merits of the Trump Administration's troop withdrawal from Syria, if I thought there was any strategic goal or plan behind it.

But as it is, it's seriously problematic. <thread>
First, it's clear that the Trump Administration has no particular end goal in mind on Syria, and is turning a blind eye to what will happen to the foreign ISIS fighters as they attempt to return to the countries where they are from or whether they will try to reconstitute there.
Second, Trump doesn't care about the humanitarian crisis, Assad's wholesale slaughter of his own people, or the potential slaughter of the Kurds by Turkey. It was Assad's brutality in the first place that drew foreign fighters to Turkey to fight against his dictatorial ways.

Ppl frequently talk about how Mueller won't charge obstruction against Trump unless there's an underlying crime.

The crime most frequently mentioned is that Trump conspired with Russia to steal the election.

But this Cohen plea changes that calculus . . .
The idea that the Trump Tower Moscow was under consideration during the campaign itself raises a different underlying crime -- public corruption.

We don't know if winning the Presidency was the aim or building the tower was the aim of the campaign. But we can look at signs.
The Trump campaign didn't have a serious transition effort. They only had a cursory idea of who their cabinet officials would be. They didn't have serious policy proposals. Trump was never taking the job of the Presidency seriously.

So late Tuesday, John Kelly, WH Chief of Staff, signed out a cabinet order allowing troops to perform law enforcement functions at the border AND to use lethal force.

This may run afoul of long standing Civil War era prohibitions on the use of the military domestically. 1/

EXACTLY. First, there is no such thing as an "informant" in a counterintelligence investigation – the FBI is not trying to find evidence of a crime. It is trying to assess the national security threat posed by suspected foreign agents. The campaign had at least FOUR. 1/
If the FBI had a source (or "asset") talk to suspected agents, it was using a *less* intrusive means to assess the threat. They COULD have gone gangbusters and just had FBI agents interview them. But that would have been more public and placed campaign under cloud of suspicion.
If POTUS is truly innocent of collusion, he would be glad that FBI was trying to neutralize Russia's attempt who were trying to infiltrate his campaign. What he and his supporters are trying to say is that the FBI should have just let Russia continue its operation.

FBI obtained the use the most invasive level of electronic surveillance ever created by telling courts a US Citizen was an:
