This is another one of those things I grew used to seeing in third-world dictatorships, but never thought I’d see here: Congressman @FrancisRooney actually calling for a “purge” of law enforcement agency leadership. This follows weeks of Trump and House GOP attacks on the FBI.
Stating the obvious once again - which strangely has become so necessary these days - Trump and a number of Republicans in the House are attempting to weaken U.S. law enforcement so that it can’t hold the Trump administration accountable for potential crimes.
I remember when House Republicans were essentially all advocates for accountable government and strong supporters of U.S. law enforcement. Now, many of them attack the latter in order to undermine the former.
It is the Article I, Constitutional responsibility of members of Congress to ensure Executive Branch accountability. Members who fail to fulfill this duty - or worse, actually work against it - do not serve the people’s interest and should be replaced.
