Open Mandapa with shining lathe turned pillars at Amruteshwar Temple, Chikmanglur(Karnataka)
One can't say that pillars are more than 800years old. The reflection coming from stone pillars is simply amazing. Marvel indeed!

Just see the perfectly turned grooves and flat surfaces of rings. Truly a marvel of ancient engineering! These monolithic pillars are built in soapstone.

The four sided 13 storied stepwell is over 100feet deep and lined with over 3500steps with an amazing geometrical precision. This stepwell is one of the largest stepwells, a magnificent device to store water.

Anda(dome) surmounted by Kalasha forms the Shikhara of temple.
It is known as Dabhai Kund. Currently filled with dogshit and garbage. It is maintained by ASI.

Dated:~10th century CE
Wherever European Christian culture went they tried to erase its history completely. Before the Discovery of Laguna copperplate inscription ancient Phillipines was generally assumed uncivilized.
2) Kinnari, gold, Surigao, Phillipines
Dated: ~10-13th century CE

Indian features are clearly visible.
3)But it was the discovery of a copperplate inscription from Laguna province which changed the ancient history of Phillipines. The inscription dated Saka 822(900 CE or even older if we consider revised date of commencement of Saka era that is 583BCE)

Korvangala. Haranahalli. Arsikere. Javagal. Halebidu. Mesmerising & architecturally unique, each stands out.
Few clicks from Laxminarsimha temple Haranahalli. Built in beginning of 13th century, it displays intricate sculpture of Dashavatars & different forms of Vishnu based on placement of various Icons. Seen here is Laxminarayana flanked by Sevaks.
Set in an idyllic village Korvangala Buceshwara temple is a handsome structure. Built in early 12th cent by a merchant known as Buci, it is one of the earliest Hoysala temple constructed.

You’re a foreigner in someone else’s country.

Be friendly. Be polite.

And smile - especially when dealing with a language barrier.

One of the most iconic buildings in Nairobi, now 101 years old. At least its foundation stone; the rest was done in parts over the next 4 decades.

Host to protesters in the '90s. Incl. once in 1997 when the police lodged teargas into the church and beat protesters to a pulp.
It had played host to the fearless mothers of freedom corner, who were hidden inside the church in 1992.

In the 1997 protest, Kibaki was stashed in the vestry while police clobbered protesters inside the church. The pews were left broken and covered in blood.
It's predecessor, St. Stephens, stood where Parliament stands today. It was demolished as part of the expansion in 1963.

Today though, we probably know All Saints for its meeting rooms and coffee shop than for its history.

Just as I said yesterday, twitter polls are a reflection of the kind of stuff you’ve been dishing out to your followers.

Crossed the 40,000 follower mark yesterday incidentally, and it’s a great time to appreciate and celebrate those who follow me + change my avi and bio later.
When I crossed the 30,000 follower mark in September last year, I wrote this thread and the sentiments and words therein still hold true (number of blocks has increased though) - I’m grateful for every follow, every RT and most engagements - TL or DM.

To commemorate this one, it’s only fitting that I do a thread - a very long one to bring out the nuances and blind spots of any fight against corruption home the point of the poll and educate those who still foolishly think Buhari is fighting corruption.
