Good Morning! Let's start the week talking about Nazis.
So, there's a Nazi running for congress in Illinois right now. His name is Art Jones. Due to a combination of "nobody was looking" and the current environment, it looks like he's going to be the GOP candidate for the seat. Mostly, I'm going to talk about web.archive.org/web/2016030902…
So, this is very interesting to me, design and timing-wise. Although the look and design of these flyers is VERY mid-1980s (xerox, type-written paragraphs, black and white pen artwork) it mentions the death of Simon Wiesenthal, which is 2005. So no, these were made in the 2000s.
But these flyers have been around FOREVER, and I collect them, along with everyone else I collect, but there's a specific reason why; and that is that these sorts of dingbat broadsheets lurk best like mushrooms; in darkness and covered with crap. They actually NEED to be there.
Conspiracy theory, especially ones that intend to denigrate and destroy a people, work best if the reader thinks this is all being suppressed by forces unknown by means unknown via power structures unknown. That the "real truth" is buried underground, kept from them.
Otherwise, this horseshit falls apart. Sunlight and regard by anyone who knows anything or does any amount of research will pick apart these broken little theses in an afternoon. So that's the best place to get these pamphlets - by hand, found on the street, in a mailbox.
I had one describing the corruption of the white race show up on my front lawn one day; it wasn't personal - it was in a plastic bag with a small rock in it (so it wouldn't blow away) that someone obviously was tossing down the street as they drove through. Hundreds delivered.
So one side effect of the current environment is all this My-GED-was-a-challenge level conspiro-trash is being dropped into a further mainstream, and instead of being the underground-level 'truth" pamphlet it has been sold as, it's having its moment in the sun. It won't last.
So bring it on, most wingnut of conspiracy and hateful of pamphlets, most ill-fitting wearers of "truth" sashes and logic hats. Enjoy that bright, bright light as everyone finally turns to you and you fall apart like cheesecloth. It's going to be quite a ride. And we'll remember.
