Since 2010 Apple is using 0x50F4546A in #iBoot ("randomly chosen by a fair roll of ssh-keygen") for a proces called "metadata whitening". The 12 bytes of the SpareData structure are XORed with pseudorandom values depending on the physical page number. esec-lab.sogeti.com/posts/2012/06/…
