"Ban guns" will get nowhere. Here's what could:
1. Require biometric guns so only owners can shoot them
2. Universal background checks.
3. No sale till check completed.
4. Ban hi-cap mags.
5. Checks for all purchases of more than 100 bullets.
6. Ban bump stocks.....

7. Outlaw public display of guns but allow LICENSED concealed carry. Carrying concealed without a license would be a felony.
8. Require 6 weeks safety training for all gun licenses for NEW owners.
9. Require liability insurance for all gun owners......

10. Insurance rates depend on: Whether a gun safe is in place, whether it is a lock or a combination, what types of guns owned etc.
11. Ban high-cap mags.

If you scream "ban guns" you may as well scream "eat dragons." You have to know the 2nd Amend precedents. The court....

...precedents dont change just because you want them to. If you dont spend the time to understand guns and the law, then your opinion is really irrelevant. The handful of things I have proposed would have MUCH more impact than "ban assault weapons" (a name that is not....

...the name of a gun, but a political term). For example, take a semi-automatic handgun that has been classified as a "assault weapon" by some gun control folks. Six shots can be fired less than 1 second faster than six shots from a revolver. What does banning that gun.....

...accomplish other than making people think something was done? Now...make a change. Ban high-capacity mags. Most semi-autos can now shoot no more than 11 shots before requiring reloading. It is the time of reloading that has led to most takedowns in mass....

...shootings. IF it is harder for anyone but a well-checked out person to get a gun AND someone who isn't an owner can't fire one AND they are limited on the number of rounds they can fire AND they are required to take safety classes AND the liability insurance imposes....

...a lot of rules that being reckless (like not having a combination safe) costs a lot more, etc. etc..you DRAMATICALLY decrease the danger. ALL of these things are not blocked by precedent - in fact, many have precedent on their side. If u know the issue, u can stop the carnage.

...in other words, like in most things, the simple answers just make people feel good. If you know guns, and RESPECT them for their danger (which gun nuts dont), answers can be found that make mass shootings far less possible even WITHOUT banning guns.

I WANT TO NOTE: Lots of people commenting on this thread are adding in FANTASTIC ideas on gun control, none of which are simplistic, never-will-happen-because-court-precedent-will-stop-it ideas. Read them through. These are sophisticated answers. And they would work.
