It is absolutely the case that armed teachers will mean more black students will be getting shot, full stop. Gonna post some quick resources/data on this.
(1) Black students are already disproportionately penalized by teachers, across the board, for all sorts of things, in our schools. nytimes.com/2014/03/21/us/…
(2) It's been consistently demonstrated that schoolyard behavior that is seen, in white children, as "acting out," is framed, when the kids are black, as signs of dangerous nascent criminality. Read this: thesocietypages.org/socimages/2013…
(3) Numerous experiments have documented how antisocial behaviors by white children go ignored by witnesses - whereas even benign behavior by black ones leads to calls to police, which can lead to lethal consequences. thesocietypages.org/socimages/2013…
(4) Compounding this even further: Americans will consistently view black children as considerably older - and thus more threatening - than they actually are. commondreams.org/views/2014/04/…
(5) In simulations, people are also vastly more likely to show "weapons bias" - the belief someone else is armed when they're actually not - when that someone is black. thesocietypages.org/socimages/2013…
(6) Given all this it should be absolutely unsurprising that when it comes to getting killed by people we already give guns - cops - black teens are *twenty-one-times* more likely to be shot dead than their white counterparts. propublica.org/article/deadly…
(7) In fact, the FBI's own data shows that in incidents of the use of excessive/lethal force by police, “the less clear it is that force was necessary, the more likely the victim is to be black.” bit.ly/1tqgK1v
IOW: The idea that "weapons talented" teachers will be successfully engaging spree killer AR-15-wielding psychopaths isn't just ludicrous nonsense in its own right. It occludes that what we'll get is teachers killing black boys and girls for holding safety scissors and rulers.
But as so often when (white) Americans embrace weapons and a culture of lethality for a (false) sense of security and the pleasure of "doing something" and feeling tough, this may not be a bug, but rather a feature of the enterprise.
