Before I hit the rack, I have one GHWB story, and it's only indirect, and probably others who worked in DC have a similar recollection, but this is a good time to tell it in order to remind people not to be cynical about him, so I'll tell it.

It was in 1990 in the lead-up to the first Gulf War. I was working in the Senate for John Heinz. And everyone was yelling about oil. (Bob Dole: O -I- L.) So Heinz had me finding out everything I could learn about oil and reserves and how much it would hurt us to lose it, etc. /2
And I didn't know anything about oil; I was brought in thinking we were going to do arms control with the Soviets in 1990. So I'm running around lost in piles of data about energy and pipelines and sanctions and all that stuff.
One day, Heinz has a meeting with Bush. /3

With the upcoming Neil-Gaiman-orchestrated "Dreaming" line at DC comics, I thought it might be time to revisit Neil Gaiman's wonderful "Sandman."

It's funny, I was just thinking today about the late sixties paranoia about cultural psychosis and insanity.

Modern pop culture is similarly fixated on the idea of insanity rippling through the popular unconscious.

"Legion", "Westworld", etc.

It's almost surprising that it took as long as it did for Gaiman to write for "Doctor Who."

Gaiman's abstract/symbolic cosmos is very much in keeping with Russell T. Davies' approach to concepts like "the Time War."

If this is not an example of a quid pro quo, I do not know what is.
You DO NOT have to an explicit agreement or exchange of money for it to be an ethical breach.
In many cases, even the appearance of impropriety is enough.
Disappointing, to say the least.

Good evening folks!

First, thank you for all the RT, likes, and kind comments on my thread yesterday. It was a quick look at my life growing up.

For anyone curious, I reconnected with my bio family when I was 26. It was incredibly awkward at first.
I experienced huge culture shock. I grew up in Alberta and had never experienced the culture, climate or the traditional food.

I'll never forget my first meal at my Nanuk's. It was a caribou head. It was baked and served in front of me. I had no idea what to think.
I wasn't sure if this was a practicle joke, or if they were seriously wanting me to eat this. It wasn't until my 5 year old niece said "Oh! Caribou head!" and dug in without any qualms or questions. My pride took over. If a 5 year old girl could eat this, so could I.

Gina, born in Ashland, KY, was oldest of 5 children. Her father served in @usairforce & after growing up overseas, she went to @universityofky, studying language & majoring in journalism. She moved to Louisville her senior year for an internship & graduated from @uofl w honors.
Her parents instilled a deep love of country & a commitment to public service. In high school, Gina came home & told her dad she wanted to attend @WestPoint_USMA. Her dad had to tell her they didn’t admit women at the time.

The pull of service & adventure, however, stayed w her.
