I'm less conservative and more liberal now than I've ever been. More even than when I was a child.

Because what began as only ideological, became, with experience and awareness, simply logical.

It's logical to assume that others wish to be treated as you would wish to be. [1/8]

That your race does not define what you can achieve. That your gender identity does not weaken you. That society loses great potential when it buries itself and its people in prejudice. [2/8]

That the past is an example, or a warning, but can never again be a future, or risk breaking the continuity of progress that defines our health and wellbeing.

That it's the young, and not the old, who light the way for social change. [3/8]

That our world, and everything we rely on, depends on those who are able to protect it from any who would destroy it for personal gain.

That my children need somewhere to call home, and that somewhere must be free, equal and open, or it's not worth having at all. [4/8]

That every social reform, democratic ideal, scientific method and secular freedom that sets my society apart from the oppressive, dogmatic regimes that came before were in spite of, and not because of, conservative people. [5/8]

That knowledge equates, not to power, but liberation from darkness and book burning that shackles society to perpetual slavery, ignorance and terror.

And that people of cultures, or appearances, different from mine are no more defaulted to doing me harm than I am to them. [6/8]

Conservatism is the opposite of all of these things. It's an illogical ideology comprised of fear, intolerance and a deep mistrust of progress. The same progress that has defined what it means to be human and opened the world to new possibilities and ways of being. [7/8]

I'm liberal, and will remain so.

To be anything else is to disregard reason, history, and the very foundation of our humanity.
