/15 @NHSProviders has launched an important new report today on how deliverable the 2018/19 NHS task really is. I’m therefore going for a personal best length thread of tweets on the report! Report here: nhsproviders.org/tough-task. Press release here: nhsproviders.org/news-blogs/new….
/15 Good to see plenty of media coverage for our new Tough Task report on how difficult the 2018/18 NHS task will be to deliver. BBC Online: bbc.co.uk/news/health-43…. Times: thetimes.co.uk/article/nhs-ne… Express: inews.co.uk/news/health/nh…
/15 Our new Tough Task report highlights how difficult the NHS task will be to deliver in 2018/19 given the combination of rising demand pressures; continued financial constraints (hopefully ending soon); and ongoing workforce shortages: theguardian.com/society/2018/m…
/15Tough Task report concludes NHS 2018/19 task looks impossible. Provider sector financial breakeven; recovering A&E performance and holding elective waiting lists look much too optimistic. Similar pressures for community, mental health and ambulances. hsj.co.uk/quality-and-pe…
/15 Our new Tough Task report argues that required 2018/19 A&E trajectory looks very ambitious. Only 5% of trusts in our survey think they can recover to 95% within 4 hours. The 2018/19 task (below NHS constitutional standard) is for 50% plus of trusts to hit 95% by March 2019.
/15 Tough Task report looks at scale/width of improvement needed to hit required 2018/19 A&E target recovery. 47% of trusts need to improve their latest performance, 12 by more than 10 percentage points. Looks very ambitious to us! Details here: nhsproviders.org/tough-task/the…
/15 Tough Task report: elective volumes dropped by 1.5% so far this year due to winter pressures & workforce/other constraints. Looks impossible to increase outpatients by 5% and elective admissions by 3.5% to hold waiting lists, as required. Detail: nhsproviders.org/tough-task/the…
/15 Tough Tash report. Only 14% of members in survey were confident that their trust could hold the size of their waiting list in 2018/19 as required. The number who were very confident was.....zero. 55% worried/very worried they could deliver. Detail: nhsproviders.org/tough-task/the…
/15 Tough Task report. @NHSProviders frustation that we can’t prove that 2018/19 performance requirements in community, mental health and ambulance sector are just as stretching as A&E and RTT but all evidence we have suggests this is the case. Want better data to prove!
/15 Tough Task report. Trusts told to break even in 2018/19. They tell us that means a 5.7% level of savings - a very significant step up compared to current and previous years. That means £1 billon (20%+) more than this year. Looks impossible.Detail: nhsproviders.org/tough-task/fin…
/15 Tough Task report. Worrying that only 54% trusts are saying they will sign up to their 2018/19 control total (allocated financial target). This is much lower than last year and indicative of the significantly more difficult 2018/19 provider financial task.
/15 Tough Task report. Worrying that only 35% of those saying they will accept their control total are confident it’s deliverable. Much higher levels of concern than before that accepting control totals will adversely affect quality. Detail here: nhsproviders.org/tough-task/fin…
/15 Tough Task report concludes that we have to stop setting trusts an unachievable task. Forces trusts into failure; undermines staff whose organisations can’t publicly succeed however hard they’re try; and undermines public confidence in NHS which is seen to perpetually fail.
/15 Tough Task report sets out policy suggestions for how NHS national leaders stop setting trusts an unachievable aggregate task every year. Realistic planning assumtions and involving trusts in properly testing the planning framework before it’s published are two ideas.
/15 We strongly welcome the Prime Minister’s personal commitment to extra long term NHS funding. Our Tough Task report published today shows how much that funding is needed and how difficult the 2018/19 NHS task is going to be without it! nhsproviders.org/tough-task
