The Baton Rouge Police Chief was fine-ish during this press conference until he just said, "To the residents of Baton Rouge, please treat our officers with the respect that they deserve and they will reciprocate that respect. Stop resisting arrest. Stop running."
The Baton Rouge Police Chief essentially just said if you think an officer was unprofessional or abused you, you need to endure the abuse and then "get with your family and file a complaint." This is a joke and it's insulting.
THE BATON ROUGE POLICE CHIEF LITERALLY JUST SAID THAT WHEN YOU FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE POLICE IT WILL BE FOLLOWED-UP BY THE POLICE LETTING YOU KNOW THATY THEY HAD TO RIGHT TO DO WHATEVER YOU COMPLAINED ABOUT.
This press conference by the Baton Rouge Police Chief should be used as a case study as to why people both don't respect the police, trust the police, and how the police continue to insult communities by failing to take ownership for any of their behaviors.
I don't think that I could script this "speech" from the Baton Rouge Police Chief. I've watched almost every one of these police chiefs since the beginning of the protests. And this presser is top three of the worst I've ever seen. This is insulting.
And now he's suggesting that if the Baton Rouge Police had higher wages, they'd be making different and better decisions in interacting with the public. And now the police chief is now reminding the police that he has their back. I don't even know what to say.
