अजो नित्यः शाश्वतोऽयं पुराणो न हन्यते हन्यमाने शरीरे ।।
na jāyate mriyate vā kadāci nnāyaṃ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥ ।
ajo nityaḥ śāśvato'yaṃ purāṇo na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre ।।

This Atma is not born now. Doesn't die. It is not born at the beginning of kalpa & destroyed at it's end. It is 'aja:' [Eternal, blemishless, indestructible]
During pralaya kAla [which we can't see], even prakriti undergoes changes but not Atma
1. asti - present
2. jAyate - produced
3. pariNamate - beginning
4. vartate - growing
5. apakshIyate - beginning destruction
6. nashyate - destruction
These vikAras are never present in Atma & it is eternally fresh!
---
By this shloka, the commonly observed 6 vikAras (as stated above) is declared to be *not* found in Atma.
Atma is qualified by 5 attributes namely
1. Aja (Unborn)
2. Nitya (Eternal)
3. sAswat (Undecaying)
4. purAna (New/Fresh even in Past)
5. na hanyate (Indestructible)
---
Whoever knows that Atma to be free of those 6 vikAras, know him to be a Brahma-jnani, Oh Arjuna!
That jnani knows that he (Atma) is not svatantran. He won't think that 'I am killed' or 'I have killed'.
Instead of being happy at performing your sva-dharma you're worried!
