Today, the statue of J. Marion Sims, the so-called “father of modern gynecology” who experiented on Black enslaved women w/o anesthesia, was taken off its pedestal to be relocated to Greenwood cemetery where he is buried. #TakeDownSims
Even though this strategy of appeasement from the city of NY will not silence us, we acknowledge the community victory and congratulate the community of East Harlem & @EH_Preservation for spearheading this 7 year fight #NotOurHero #TakeDownSims 
White supremacy isn’t only confederate flags and statues. This country’s foundation - stolen from Indigenous people, built by Black people, used exploitative & violent methods to build a constitution that fails to listen to the people impacted by the harm enacted. #TakeDownSims
