Ok but is that her job? To read him like a boss? Since when is that the job of a political commentator?
To me, what this entire interview shows and illustrates is the big difference between how someone like Meghan handles a major interview such as this and someone like Sunny Hostin @sunny handles it. Particularly later when Sunny asks regarding the October surprise.
Sunny asks hard questions and holds Comey's feet to the fire regarding why he did not also inform the public about the ongoing Russia investigation as well as the new Hillary emails. She delves into Comey's controversial actions and does so in a calm yet pressing manner.
But when an issue of judgment or a hole in the story emerges she points it out and stays on top of Comey. That's how a journalist acts, and Sunny doesn't even consider herself a journalist.

Meghan on the other hand, does not do that.
All of the topics and questions she puts forth either have to do with Comey's "character" or "political views". She unnecessarily cites his wife attending the Women's March which has nothing to do with anything and frames all of her questions in a way in which to shade Comey.
To call him a "coward" or "hack" or "untrustworthy". The reason she does this (and she's already doing it now), is so that outlets on the right can write pieces about how she shades Comey and "eviscerates" him etc. Which she will then proceed to share to boost her own ego.
Look at what she made sure to get in before a break when she says "People like Alan Dershowitz say you didn't have the courage to." A comment like that, which is not designed for him to respond to, is intended to only elevate Meghan as a tough person in certain peoples eyes.
It's not about actually having a hard hitting interview that brings forth information. It's about posturing. That comment she made about "fileting" Comey is less of her being nasty or rude and more of her just showcasing her actual interview strategy and what her intentions are.
