1) It’s surreal & frightening to see people who’ve never attended wpuk public meetings, tripping over themselves to declare it as a violent hate group. In their haste they show deliberate ignorance, perhaps even their own projected hatred of women who refuse to know their place.
2) We have a word for that but I fear there is little point in trading insults, we need to raise the level of discourse. In their movements’ jaundiced rush to demonise women who are merely trying to peacefully & democratically discuss changes which directly affect them,
3) they show absolutely no concern for women’s opinions or even their right to have one which differs from their own. It is shameful. There is no acknowledgement of the history of many of the leading women at @Womans_Place_UK as fighters against all forms of discrimination.
4) They willfully ignore the many statements & support given to the unquestionable right of trans people to continue to fight for equality, not paper equality but real equality in society, for us to be free from discrimination and violence.
5) Neither do they acknowledge that trans & non-binary people have spoken at these events, some from the platform as advertised speakers. Those who do acknowledge it try to make sordid & false the genuine warmth & support that trans allies have received from so many women.
6) Identity activists try to portray us as quislings & to represent that solidarity as merely the traitors sham ‘reward’ for pandering gullibly to hate-filled women; Turkeys voting for Christmas. I’ve done a degree in Psychology, Ive got 30yrs of socialist activism under my belt
7) years of frontline 999 ambulance work attending to thousands of patients and their families. I’ve fought the BNP in the streets of Halifax, London and Leeds, opposed the anti-gay bigots over section28 & faced down groups of transphobic men. I know hatred when I see it
8) and I also know genuine warmth, compassion & solidarity from the counterfeit version. What is it that inspires so much vitriol towards A Woman’s Place? It is because they & increasing numbers of transsexuals dare speak a truth that is in grave danger of becoming unsayable
9) in liberal democracies; A new blasphemy which condemns us as unconscionable heretics to be cast out. What is this heinous crime? It is to utter the words ‘Women do not have penises’. If the women behind WPUK are a hate group then the world has truly lost its way.
10) It terrifies me that this anti-rationalism is being allowed to take hold. We are told in essence that some people are too mentally fragile to endure alternative narratives. Yet being oppressed & vulnerable does not give us the right to diminish others or turn reality
11) & truth on its head. I say this as a died-in-the-wool socialist who is desperate to see a Corbyn led Labour government. You have been very badly advised Jeremy. The political cowardice across the entire parliamentary political spectrum in hiding from engagement on this
12) issue has created a vacuum in which slander, harrassment & intimidation of women who dare disagree with sexist dogmas is flourishing. How long before the real bigots of the right start to make hay in the fertile soil of desperation & bitterness if the left abandon women?
14) & break the all-Party silence on this issue. Stand up & be counted & engage with this debate. Leaving ordinary women & trans people abandoned whilst you continue to hide in fear of unjust accusations of transphobia is a dereliction of duty. Time to show some mettle
