Some programmer friends of mine are at risk of redundancy and busy updating their CVs (résumés). For their sake, and anyone else in same boat, here are some bits of advice. (thread)
1. The point of a CV is to get you past the initial filters of agencies and HR people. It therefore doesn't need to be filled with every possible relevant detail, just enough to act as bait.
2. Include relevant keywords but keep them in context
3. Write As Well As You Can
4. Justify Your Claims of Experience
5. A controversial point, but my advice is Ignore Anyone Who Tells You “Strictly One or Two Pages”
6. Emphasize Skills to Match the Job Advert
7. Don’t Leave Unexplained Gaps Between Jobs
8. “Reading, Music, and Cinema”
9. Layout does matter
10. Graduate CVs, or what to write if you don't have a lot of experience.
11. What to write if you have lots of experience.
12. CVs of Those Returning to Work
13. Avoid common CV blunders
That's it. I wish you all the best. Hit me up if I can help - I am quite busy but will help if I can. /thread
