Prosecution laying out their case against Rachid: “He provided an unstoppable and hatefilled flow of encouragement for others to commit acts of terror... attacks with vehicles, explosive devices, bombs, chemicals, any attack you can imagine one person committing on their own.”
Prosecution: “Rashid’s suggestions included injecting poison into ice creams stocked in super market freezers and targeting #PrinceGeorge as he attended his first day of school.”
Prosecution says Rashid was in contact with Omar Ali Hussain, the high profile jihadi who was a Morrison’s security guard from High Wycombe. Now in Syria with IS. #PrinceGeorgeTerror
Prosecution outline 7 counts against Rashid including his alleged plans to travel to Syria to fight with I.S, advising others how to build bombs, inciting terror, running the ‘mujahid’ (lone wolf) media brand and disseminating other jihadist material. #PrinceGeorgeTerror
Prosecution says Rashid’s alleged offences were discovered through the online channels he ran. When police arrested him at his home in Nelson, Lancs he threw a mobile phone into an alleyway. Police found it and describe it as ‘a treasure trove’ of evidence. #PrinceGeorgeTerror
Prosecution says Rashid predominantly used the encrypted app Telegram to spread terror-related messages in various channels. Across devices and apps they found 219,000 messages. He also had ‘internet privacy apps’ and ‘deletion tools’ installed. #PrinceGeorgeTerror
Prosecution says Rashid’s phone contained a pdf file of a 31 page partially completed version of ‘Lone Mujahid’ magazine. His own jihadist magazine they allege he was due to publish before he got arrested. Articles include: ‘Make a Bomb in Your Kitchen’ #PrinceGeorgeTerror
Other articles/ advice in Rashid’s magazine talk about bringing about maximum harm by ‘welding blades to the front of a 4-wheel drive vehicle,’ and how you can make detonators that successfully get through metal scanners. #PrinceGeorgeTerror
More detail given in court about Rashid’s communications with Omar Ali Hussain. Describes the jihadi as the ‘principle individual’ Rashid contacted on Telegram under the alias ‘Repunzel’. Prosecution says Hussain disappeared off social media in Sept 2017. #PrinceGeorgeTerror
Prosecution says it’s thought that Hussain was imprisoned by I.S in Syria and is thought to have been killed. Prosecutor references his name ‘Abu Saeed Al Britani’ being found engraved in Raqqa prison wall. This was a Sky News find from Oct: news.sky.com/story/amp/noto…
Prosecution outlining the advice Rashid is alleged to have supplied to Hussain who was in Syria. Talks about using lasers to shoot down enemy planes. Great detail also on how to jam ‘anti-tank missiles’ to protect I.S fighters on the ground. #PrinceGeorgeTerror
After exibiting a number of messages allegedly sent by Rashid to various jihadist groups, the prosecution says: “the clear purpose of that information and research was to reach Islamic state in Syria.” Effectively, the prosecution alleges that Rashid acted as an I.S researcher.
Prosecutor alleges that Rashid had a ‘hit list’ of targets including ‘Salman Rushdie’ and M16. Encouraged western would-be jihadists to ‘terrorise the enemies of Allah”. #PrinceGeorgeTerror
Prosecution: [Rashid] posted a message praising the terror attacks in Brussels, Paris, Orlando and Nice and urging the reader to, ‘look around you how many infidels can you reach to and kill, with your car, knife, or even a stone, or poisoning them!... Go out and take revenge!’
All finished for the day. I’ll be live in 25 minutes with a summary of what was heard in court.
