I had a question about footwear with shorts. Here are a bunch of options that are 100x better than the dirty flip flops you see the avg jabroni wearing (usually with his oversized cargo shorts):
First up is a pair of clean white sneakers. Can't go wrong with them. Super easy to wear. Very versatile. I like the Adidas Stan Smiths: amzn.to/2IKA72e
And you don't HAVE to go with with white leather sneakers. Suede is another great option. Recommend basic colors like navy, grey, brown. These navy suede sneakers are from Grenson: shopstyle.it/l/KA7P
Another great option is a pair of suede drivers. Very classy and work well with more "dressed up" looks. These beauties are from Brooks Brothers: shopstyle.it/l/KA6G
And if you're not into drivers another good option are a pair of leather boat shoes. Recommend only wearing these if you're near a body of water (e.g. the lake) vs trolling around in them in the city. These are from Brooks Brothers as well: shopstyle.it/l/KA8b

A common question I get: how do I improve my style while I still have a bunch of weight to lose? Will I just be pissing away my money on new clothes?
My answer:
First, realize that we’re all still looking to improve our physiques (even those of us in great shape) so when you hit your goal weight don’t be surprised that you’ve still got work to do. It’s never ending.
Next, I suggest building your “temporary” wardrobe on simple basics like fitted t-shirts, polos, casual buttons up, jeans, chinos, and the like. All these items can be found inexpensively and can easily be replaced as you get into better and better shape.

How can you turn heads with your summer style? First, understand that the bar is set very low. The avg guy dresses like a total bum. That being said, here are a few outfit ideas to help you out:
Basic t-shirt + shorts outfit. The key to pulling this look off (as always) is being in stellar shape. Shorts should be above the knees and you should wear loafer socks for a sockless look:
Why shorts above the knees? Because they make you look taller (or at least not as short as you are). Shorts that hit you above the knee give you better proportions. Plain and simple.

My general advice on how to become a “good looking” guy:
First – get yourself in great shape. This one is a no brainer. A fit physique is an attractive physique. If you weren’t blessed with a beautiful face then the least you can do is build a lean, muscular physique. This alone will put you into an elite category.
Next – upgrade your style. Most guys dress like complete bums and it really doesn’t take much to separate yourself from the pack. Just remember to keep things simple and focus on dialing in the fit of your clothes. Pay attention to your footwear as well.

2/ You probably noticed how, people came forward to say that they'd reported the bomber for violent threats, and Twitter (as always) did nothing and (as always) now apologizes but (as always) won't say how they'll better handle. They won't, and I'll tell you one big reason why.
3/ to address complaints about threats and "improve the dialog" Twitter introduced the "quality filter." You see fewer threats and hate speech. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THERE'S LESS OF IT.

First attempt at a twitter thread, so here goes nothing (bare with me here):

This is Robert C. Allen's graphical representation of "Engels' Pause"--the existence of two-phase real wage growth in the UK during he Industrial Revolution.
As you can see, real wages are stagnant from the beginning of the IR to around 1835ish, most likely 1840 if we're talking about a real guarantee that wages are going to keep going up as opposed to down. For comparison's sake, the "Communist Manifesto" was published in 1848.
What's interesting--and what I don't think Allen gets into much in his analysis--is the startling correlation with wage growth and several key moments in the history of the Labour Movement in the UK, let alone the rest of the world. Here's what they are:

Thread of recommendations for students handing in essays in the humanities, specifically history. Written as I mark.
At the very start of your assignment, before you even type an introduction, you should make sure it is clear what question you are answering. I like seeing it in italics on the opening page, but this may vary. Either way, don't keep the marker guessing.
Titles are nice. There is no rule saying that your essay has to be titled "Jeffrey Atkins - Research Essay."

They're sometimes hard to come up with but they make a good impression with even a little thought.
