“Why do wealthy politicians build walls, fences, and gates outside their home?” he asked. “They don’t build walls because they hate the people on the outside but because they love the people on the inside.”

Do open border policies work?
No.
All one needs to do is look at Germany, France and everywhere else who let immigration flow freely into their Countries.

Rape and sexual crimes have increased to a point of crisis.

#Germany is having a rape crisis due to their open borders.
Human trafficking has increased and so has violent crimes.
#Trump is right. A strong border wall is needed.

Thank you to the President for the #TrumpAddress tonight. I'm quite serious. Unlike him, I can see the writing on the wall.

I've been knee deep in the racist origins of our immigration policy for quite some time and seen how they clothe bigotry with easier to swallow terms.
Terms like "border security," "criminal alien," "illegal alien" and coopted terms like "migrant," "chain migration" and "national security."

So why would I thank him?
Because - simply - it's nothing new. It's the same old tired alarm, played on the world's most annoying siren. "We must stop the invasion!"

This lunatic has the audacity to say that our border agents ( 45% of which are Hispanics) are committing human rights violations and says they should not be funded !

Are you angry yet my fellow Patriots? 😡

This Sociopath and pathological liar also said that children are being held in freezers ! FREEZERS !!!!!!

Then she says that illegals are more Patriotic than the President.

And now, the 2008 Democrat Party Platform as it relates to Border Security... #TrumpAddress #BuildTheWall
"We cannot continue to allow people to enter the United States undetected, undocumented, and unchecked. The American people are a welcoming and generous people, but those who enter our country's borders illegally, and those who employ them, disrespect the rule of the law."
"We need to secure our borders, and support additional personnel, infrastructure, and technology on the border and at our ports of entry. We need additional Customs and Border Protection agents equipped with better technology and real-time intelligence."

The #TrumpAddress to the nation was full of inaccuracies and was horrifically xenophobic. Here are some things I caught that were misleading and easily disproven.
Early on he began ranting about how drugs entering the U.S. is part of this crisis at the border and used that as a justification for the wall. Yet the vast majority of drugs coming into the U.S are hidden in legal shipments.
He also talked about the great numbers of apprehensions of criminal immigrants at the border, yet unauthorized border crossings are at record lows numbers and statistics show that most people crossing have no criminal history.

@realDonaldTrump (1/4) The real problem with illegal immigration isn’t immigrants, it’s the legal immigration system. With 9 million mixed citizenship households, $7,000 process, 10-20 yr. wait and 60% from visa abuse; walls won’t solve problem. Fix the system, fix the problem #TrumpAddress
@realDonaldTrump (2/4) Donald Trump and Republicans need to stop lying to the American people. Democrats don’t want open borders, terrorists are not crossing the southern border and we have a barrier in place already. We need more monitoring security and personnel, not a wall #TrumpAddress
@realDonaldTrump (3/4) Democrats already tried to secure border and reform immigration system with S.744. Republicans don’t want to solve illegal immigration. You don’t fix a leaky ship with the passengers inside. Fix Quotas, VISA’s, Refugees, DACA, then you build a your wall #TrumpAddress

Here we go. #TrumpAddress has begun. I'll be adding to this thread throughout.
"1 in 3 women are sexually assaulted on the trek [to the border]," says the guy who bragged about sexually assaulting women.
Trump is fearmongering about drugs coming through the border, but most illicit drugs come through legal ports of entry. A wall won't stop any of that.

With a lot of attention focused on fact-checking ahead of the #TrumpAddress tonight, it's important to keep a few things in mind regarding the effectiveness of fact-checking when faced with the volume & style of lies that Trump tells. 1/
I'll start by saying that fact-checking is better than no fact-checking. But even the best, most thorough and timely fact-checking won't come close to undoing the damage of letting Trump interrupt regular evening programming to spread propaganda from the Oval Office. 2/
First of all, Trump's words are only part of the performance he's putting on. When the president interrupts regular programming to deliver a special speech about an "emergency" and a "crisis" at the border, that sends a message and fosters a sense of importance and urgency. 3/

Before this evening's broadcast, let's talk about Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v Sawyer—the case that struck down Harry Truman's executive order Executive Order 10340, that limited the president's power to seize property in the midst of a national emergency: HERE WE GO! (1/19)
OKAY! So it was April 1952 and the US was in the Korean War, and the steel mills were about to go on strike. To make sure the US has a steady steel supply, President Truman issued EO 10340, that the Secretary of Commerce was going to seize control of US steel mills. (2/19)
(Important to note: Truman could have tried to use portions of the recently-passed Taft–Hartley Act to stop the steel union from striking, bc it was meant to be a way to restrict union activity, but instead chose just to seize the steel mills.) (3/19)

Let’s have some truth bombs before tonight’s address:

#NoWall Fact 1:
Illegal border crossings are way down

In the early 2000’s, 1.3-1.6 million people were apprehended crossing the border.

2018? <400,000

#NoWall Fact 2:
Undocumented Immigrants are not causing a crime wave at the border, in fact the southern border counties are among the safest in the country!

#BoycottTrumpsAddress

washingtonpost.com/news/politics/…
#NoWall Fact 3:
The majority of undocumented immigrants DO NOT sneak across the border, they are people who came to the US legally and overstayed their visa. A wall does NOTHING to address this.

We're so grateful to everyone who donated today as an act of resistance to counter Trump's hate.

One donation did so in honor of "my Great-Great Grandparents who themselves immigrated to this country in search of hope."
Another did in honor of "Jakelin Caal Maquin & Felipe Gomez Alonso", the two children who died in CBP custody over the past few weeks.
We received another donation "in memory of the trump administration's missing heart, empathy and conscience"
