Painful emotions, especially anxiety & depression, are by far the most common reasons people seek help. An evolutionary perspective recognizes emotions as special states shaped by natural selection along with control systems that express them in situations where they are useful.

Today in pulp, as it's #DarwinDay, l ask the question: should we fear The Singularity - a super-intelligent artificial intelligence that will evolve to rule over us forever more?

The technological singularity is a hypothetical point in the future when technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unfathomable changes to human civilization.
In short an upgradable intelligent agent would enter a "runaway reaction" of self-improvement cycles: an intelligence explosion would occur resulting in a powerful superintelligence that would, qualitatively, far surpass all human intelligence.

Here's Gorringe Bank, a twin-peaked seamount near Portugal that rises from ~5 km deep to ~50 m deep, taller than Mont Blanc in the Alps. Home to >800 species, from deep-sea glass sponges to kelp.
Discovered by USS Gettysburg in 1875 under Capt Henry Gorringe.
