tl;dr There is no free market for energy, and the proposal on the table here is for ratepayers to bail out inefficient and carbon-intensive coal plants, against market forces.

All day today I've been forming a talk and a thought in my mind.

An estimated 4,645 people died in Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria, almost as many as 9/11 AND Hurricane Katrina. Now, Hurricane season is back and 11,000 Puerto Ricans are still without power. The Trump admin botched this and many Americans are still suffering as a result.
Evidence from FEMA data:

Within 6 days after Harvey, 91 US helicopters were in Houston. Took 3 weeks to get 70 to Puerto Rico.

9 days after both storms: $142M approved for Harvey w/ 30K responders on the ground. $6.2M and 10K responders for Maria.

These numbers speak volumes.
