The amalgamation of Toronto was a forced political decision by Mike Harris & the PCs. Justified it as a way to cut costs, but arguably a way for Conservatives to gain regional control over Toronto & its suburbs.

For Toronto to be the great city it can be, it needs a provincial government that understands that the city desperately needs fair and equitable infrastructure projects, progressive planning and proper taxation tools.
Which takes us back to my feature earlier this year in @nowtoronto, calling for municipal leadership that recognizes these very challenges.
