I keep seeing women ask men in their friends lists/timelines etc:

So how do you speak up against sexism and misogyny?

And so many of these men are like, "Geeze, I totally would, if I ever saw any happen!"

And like, these men seem to think that's a good answer. [1/]
Like, seriously? You actually expect us to believe sexism and misogyny never happen around you?

How does it not occur to you that what you just said is "I give no fucks about sexism and misogyny?"

Obviously you wouldn't speak up against it or you'd be talking to yourself. [2/
Some more gems: "Men moderate their behavior around other men so we just don't even see it and have a chance."

That's a flagrant lie and you know it.

Also, so then you're telling me you're usually in settings with nothing but men? You don't think that's an issue? [3/]
"Well I know he's a sexist asshole, but he's a pretty good welder (or whatever) so, I mean, whatcha gonna do?"

How about not give him a pass?

When's the last time you even heard "I know she's a woman, but she's a great welder?" Probably Flashdance -- 1983 and fiction. [4/]
"Well when I speak up against sexism, I go down a notch in perceived status with the other men."

I hear you, my dude, but you can never go down enough in status to be on the level competent women hope to arrive at as an upgrade so like, how can I hear that as valid either? [5/]
My point is, all these things said by the staggeringly few men who even bother to answer "Are there obstacles for you in speaking out against sexism and misogyny?" are things men say as if they expect women to go "Oh, okay then." [6/]
Like I'm supposed to give a fuck that douchebags won't respect you for standing up for women?

I know, I know. Not all men. Because you're one of the good ones. Who'd speak up if there was ever any reason to.

Just... like, can you think before you talk? Ever?
