Trump v Hawaii is yet another proof that #SCOTUS has lost the ability to operate in that way.

The UKSC must not follow (further?).

We shouldn't cheer results we like if they're achieved through bad means.
Put another way, being legalisitc is a virtue, not a vice.

I confess, @GaryLineker speaks for me. I realise the practical barriers are near insuperable, but the conduct of Brexi has been so bad, with no deal now being talked about apparently seriously (when it would be a disaster) that it begins to look like the least awful option.
And what does it say of our political class and our politics that the most high profile reasonable person on the issue is a former football player with no mandate at all.

We have to get off this train. The Hard Brexiteers are, I'm sorry, either villains or fools.
Civility in political discourse is a precious thing. It enables our liberal, representative democracy to function.

But, I'm sorry to say, those supporting a Hard Brexit are either very ill-informed, or have a crackpot messianic view of Britain's need to escape the EU.

(Re-)watching The Paper Chase (1973) which is about learning contract at Harvard.

Strange that what is taught reflects what you'd now learn in England not the US.

The answer is that he thought he'd have no problem repaying the loan as one of his ships was bound to come in.

None did.
Human beings are systematically over optimistic about the future. It is a mental coping mechanism. We assume things will turn out ok.

Some Nine World's stuff worthy of a read.
One of the reasons why the 9W stuff is interesting to me is partly due to how it all turned out, what they achieved and the hardships they faced and also partly because I could see Kitacon going the same route and facing the same challenges.
Obviously I'm keen to avoid the pitfalls others have made in order to maintain a strong event and team but I can't help be worried about the geek/nerd communities being swallowed up by non caring events worried only about their bottom line.

Many Iranians criticised one of BBC Farsi’s journalists for her comments on Iran-Hezbullah relations. Some have even threatened her that she won’t be allowed to go back to Iran after the fall of the regime. Many Iranians believe some of @bbcpersian journalists support the regime.
In the past few days some anti-BBC slogans have been chanted by the protesters in Iran. In a comment one of BBCFarsi journalist claims that ‘Trump wants to turn Iran into another Syria by starting a civil war etc’. The same propaganda which is pumped out by Iranian state media.
Some of @BBCPersian journalists block anyone who criticises them. One of its journalists in particular has publicly supported A.Khamenei on his social media pages. I have written to a few MPs and the BBC about. Will see if BBC is interested in opening an investigation.

I feel like driving up some controversy, so how about a thread of Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions! You know the drill, one like = one take/opinion.

Start easy: the blunt awkwardness/cringe of 'Blurryface' is the point of taking the piss out of Tyler. I stand by my light 9/10.
2. I don't hate Nickelback's 'Dark Horse' - it's easily a record for them at their most tasteless, but the frat-bro swagger of it helps some of their better hooks.
3. 'Fireflies' by Owl City is a genuinely terrific song that captures precocious, starry-eyed wonderment better than few others in the 2000s.

It is SPECTACULARLY lame, but that's why it works.
