Matthew Hooten, along w Cameron Slater gave Cathy Odger’s Hager’s address, in response to a threatening (“Chop chop for Nicky”) email from Odgers.

That Odgers was emailing Hooten suggests he was part of the “in” crowd

Yes, Hooten’s in there, but bar his appalling willingness to have Nicky Hager harmed, he wasn’t a “star” character in book

Peter Aranyi, however, thinks National Party Spin Doc, Hooten, was much more central to the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy exposed in Hager’s “Dirty Politics.”

The fact he was copied the “Chop chop Nicky” email from Odgers would seem to support this theory.

I’m confused about Hooten.

Is he another slick Spin Doctor?
Does he just pretend to have a moral backbone (though this doesn’t jive given the threat to Nicky Hager), or is he at least in part genuine

There likely are ethically sound people in Nat Party but Machiavellians run it
