"Big loss for the coffers of the Democrats" = Saying the quiet part loud. This case wasn't about workers or free speech. It was about undermining Democratic power.
This is especially damaging to already-underresourced Democratic statehouse races. Public sector unions obviously have a huge interest in state-level government and policy, and Democratic lawmakers are the ones who fight draconian budget cuts, adequately fund schools, etc.
The Janus decision doesn't just undermine unions -- it will help Republicans keep the hold on statehouses they need to gerrymander themselves into an artificial congressional majority for the next decade.
Even as Democrats are demonstrating historic strength in state legislative elections this cycle, the Janus decision will make ousting entrenched and corporate-funded GOP incumbents that much harder before the next round of redistricting.
