So let's talk about universal background checks (we'll also get into "buying elections", but it's gonna take a few tweets to get there). 1/

@Alyssa_Milano Clearly, these sheriffs were just bought off by the gun lobby, right Alyssa? The only problem is while the NRA spent $10k in New Mexico elections in 2016, ya boy Bloomberg spent $200k. 5/

@Alyssa_Milano As it turns out, the universal background check bill failed to make it out of committee, despite Bloomberg's success in turning the legislature Dem majority. Go ask the Dems who opposed it what they were hearing from their constituents. 6/

@Alyssa_Milano Universal background check laws sound good to people who don't own guns, don't have to enforce laws, but who really want to "do something". I'll give you one more example, from the Wintemute study I mentioned earlier. 7/

@Alyssa_Milano According to the study, WA & CO didn't see an increase in background check laws after they went into effect. DE saw an increase, but if you look at the crime rates of those three states during the same time period (Wintemute didn't), DE had the biggest increase in homicides. 8/
@Alyssa_Milano So, even when there's an increase in background checks, there's not necessarily a corresponding decrease in crime or murders. But keep demonizing millions of Americans who disagree with you, Alyssa. And keep telling yourself it's okay because you're doing it out of "love". 9/9

Trump speaks of the Union generals that came before Grant; great generals, head of their class at West Point, but they didn’t know how to win. And Trump is right. McClellan was a disaster, and would have preferred to keep his army in camp instead of fighting. 2/
Ambrose Burnside replaced McClellan after Antietam in November of 1862. Lincoln wanted a fighter, and Burnside presented a plan to take Richmond. He never got there, suffering a massive defeat at Fredericksburg, VA in December of ‘62. 3/

A brief thread to emphasize Jesse’s point. On Long Island, anti-gun activists and local Dem politicians recently mounted a campaign to get a local event hall to void their contract to host the Nassau County @FriendsofNRA dinner. It did not go as they hoped it would. 1/
In Brooklyn, anti-gun activists and local Dem politicians were able to get three venues to back out of their contract with the locals Friends of NRA committee before Knights of Columbus hall agreed to host. The activists on LI had a playbook to follow. 2/ newsday.com/long-island/su…

I’m gonna try to distract myself from thinking about tomorrow (and now get that stupid Fleetwood Mac song out of my head) with a little thread on the deplatforming of another controversial media figure from an earlier day: Dr. J.R Brinkley, the “goat gland doctor”. 1/
John Romulus Brinkley was a real doctor. Or at least he had a certificate from something called the Kansas City Eclectic Medical University and in 1915 that was good enough to practice medicine in eight states. Dr. Brinkley was in business. 2/
In 1918, he moved to Milford, Kansas and set up a fairly large clinic during the Spanish Flu epidemic. But it wasn’t until the following year that he hit upon his genius idea of grafting bits of goat balls onto human testicles to increase virility. 3/

i remember when i took sejarah seriously in form 4. it was the chapters on the whole mess the brits orchestrated, then to our struggles of reaching independence. we went through the history of SPR, an intense chapter of the malayan union being something widely fought against.
i can’t imagine what it’s like being a non-malay and seeing a massive representation from your “fellow countrymen” on the subject of their rights being more important than yours.
as a 16 year old, that chapter on the malayan union made me really uncomfortable and it was the first time i realised i could actually form my own opinions. what was even more uncomfortable was realising our current socio-economic climate today was directly influenced by it.

Price gets Wagner to say that the prior jury found infringement, but never decided what constitutes an article of manufacture. Wagner also says it took him time to get data from Samsung because the data is highly confidential, and there were language issues.
Wagner says Samsung pays him $795 per hour, and Apple's damages expert Julie Davis charges $900 per hour. Wagner testified yesterday that he has worked over 8,000 hours on the case since 2011. So he's made about **$6.36 million** by my tally.
The parties finished with Wagner, and both parties have rested their case. Judge Koh says she needs some time to finalize jury instructions, so she let the jurors take a 15-minute break.

Abortion is a difficult subject to discuss, because people either believe life begins at conception or they don't. Discussing gun laws shouldn't be the same, because there are so many shades of gray between owning whatever you want or nothing at all. #GunReformNow THREAD.
2. Perhaps there is some way in which most of us can let go of the hostilities around the subject and realize almost all of us want Americans to be safer. So let's have a frank discussion about how to do that, instead of being enslaved by extremist points of view.
3. I, like many Americans, enjoy guns for sporting purposes and feel safer having one in my home to protect myself and my family. But I also think there are a few things we can do to make ourselves, and our children, safer.

5 yrs ago at a meeting w/my constituents in Tucson, AZ, a troubled young man opened fire, injuring 12 & killing 6. I was shot in the head.
When I was shot, the bullet tore through the left side of my brain, an injury that is almost always fatal. Somehow, I survived.
