Reminder: the SSCI investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 elections is a bipartisan investigation. The joint press release from Sen. Burr and Sen. Warner is here: bit.ly/2u2LCfh
Sen. Burr: After 16 months of reviewing sources, tradecraft & analytic work, no reason to dispute the IC's conclusions. Sen. Warner: The Russian effort was extensive and sophisticated, and we have to do more to protect ourselves in 2018 and beyond. bit.ly/2u2LCfh
Also from the SSCI press release: "The overall judgments issued in the ICA were well-supported and the tradecraft was strong... Russian cyber operations were more extensive than the hack of the DNC & continued well through the 2016 election." bit.ly/2u2LCfh
From the unclassified summary report: "Russian activities in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election represented a significant escalation in a long history of Russian attempts to interfere in U.S. domestic politics." bit.ly/2u1i6GP
"As the inquiry has progressed since January 2017, the Committee has seen additional examples of Russia's attempt to sow discord, undermine democratic institutions, and interfere in U.S. elections and those of our allies." bit.ly/2u1i6GP
This latest installment of SSCI's unclassified summary reports is a critical bipartisan assessment. It makes clear that Russia's active measures campaign during the 2016 election was concerted, multi-pronged, directed by leadership, and very real. bit.ly/2u1i6GP
Finally, we can't assume Russia is the only nation that might try this. SSCI notes the importance of continuing to be on the lookout for similar active measures campaigns by any "foreign nation attempting to secretly influence U.S. affairs." bit.ly/2u1i6GP
