This is a great question. Other possibilities that come to mind: Value of monetization of the data? Cost of actual/ economic damage if the data were compromised? Other traditional legal damages frameworks - emotional distress and/or punitive damages in certain cases? 1/
Intrinsic value derived from statutory protection (see last week's Illinois biometric case)? The value as measured by regulatory fines? There are so many potential dimensions: market value, marketing value, technical value, ethics, economics, law, policy, philosophy. 2/
Value can and should vary based on the facts, but within what framework? I don't expect we'll crack the code in a couple of tweets. But what an important question, for so many reasons. Hoping to see some thoughtful suggestions in the replies. 3/3
