Samba TV, a service for personalized TV recommendations, harvests second-by-second viewing data from 13.5 million #SmartTVs in the US, at individual level, largely without the full knowledge of consumers.

What the NYT article doesn't mention is that Samba TV has a partnership with the large consumer data broker Acxiom. This is from a slide deck about Acxiom's LiveRamp 'IdentityLink Data Store' from 2016.

Samba TV is introduced as a "new data spotlight" for "data buyers".

No offense, but I guess our report on 'Corporate Surveillance in Everyday Life' (June 2017) contains yet more details about commercial data practices that might be worth further investigations 🤖
On the LiveRamp website, Samba TV is currently listed as a 'data provider':
