I trained a neural network to invent new names for nail polish. Some of them are very strange indeed.

Batberry and Flame Dust are the only ponies. Every other polish name on this chart is very, very metal.
Here are some rejected neural net nail polish names. Love Rot, anyone? Song of the Booty?

Researchers were tipped off when the algorithm not only did suspiciously well at converting maps to satellite images, but was able to reproduce features like trees & cars that weren't in the maps at all. The original map, left; the street map generated from the original, center; and the aerial map generated only from the street map. Note the presence of dots on both aerial maps not represented on the street map.

Like this one by @_joelsimon, who evolved new floorplans for an elementary school. It produced a cavelike warren of bubble-rooms because nobody had told it to do straight walls or windows. joelsimon.net/evo_floorplans… Left: Optimized for minimizing traffic flow bewteen classes and material usage. Right: Also optimized for minimizing fire escape paths.
And this ongoing thread by @sterlingcrispin whose robot dogs have learned to tap-dance, flop on the ground, do pushups, and even hack the simulation physics to glide - basically, anything but walk.

Lots of founders are gearing up to raise a round in the next couple months. If that's you, here are some things to think about... (1/..)
Timing in the fall matters. The window is smaller than you'd think. Everyone comes back after labor day. There's lots of activity until Thanksgiving. There's a slower period between TG and about week 1-2 of December, where you *might* be able to close. After that, it's done.
That means you *need* to be ready to go, with investor meetings scheduled, by mid Sep latest. Hopefully earlier. It will always take longer than you think. You also want to compress your timeline and pitch as many investors as you can in parallel (eg venturehacks.com/articles/creat… …)
