ICYMI, Senate Republicans have quietly set up a vote next week on Brian Benczkowski to head the DOJ Criminal Division. This is a big deal.
At a time when we need the DOJ Criminal Division to help uncover, prevent, and deter Russian interference in our democracy, Mr. Benczkowski is simply not the right person to lead that effort. See my letter here.
We must send a clear message that DOJ will stand strong against Russian meddling. That means withdrawing the Benczkowski nomination and putting in a DOJ Criminal Division head who has real prosecutorial experience and is free and clear from Russian connections.

Let me be clear: Dems support strong, effective border security. The type of border security that Dems have long-supported, including increased funds for tech, is what experts have said is needed & actually works. What doesn’t work is an ineffective, expensive & medieval wall.
But here’s what we should all agree on: large portions of the government shouldn’t be shut down while there’s a debate on border security.
Today, we urged the President and Republican leaders to pass the 6 other appropriations bills, which would reopen most of the government, along with a short-term bill to keep DHS funded and working while we continue to debate the path forward on border security.

Democrats have made it clear to the President that there are much more effective ways to secure our border than a wall – like more screening technology and personnel to stop drugs from flowing through our borders. Democrats support smart border security that works.
For example, the DEA has found that the cartels transport the bulk of their illicit goods over the Southwest border through legal ports of entry using passenger vehicles or tractor trailers.
CBP Commissioner McAleenan told me directly in October 2017 that his top priority to secure the border was more drive-through inspection systems, known as Z-portals. He didn’t mention a border wall.

The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

TODAY @SenateGOP is quietly pushing a vote on Brian Benczkowski to head the DOJ Criminal Division. This vote will have MAJOR implications on the investigation into Russian meddling with the Trump campaign and our elections.
Benczkowski refuses to recuse himself from the Russia investigation despite having worked for a Russian bank under investigation for ties to Trump. He also pushed for Comey’s firing to AG Sessions while serving on the Trump transition team. Those are clear conflicts of interest.
The DOJ Criminal Division needs a litigator, prosecutor, & legal professional with the experience required to lead the toughest cases facing our country. That’s not Trump-nominee Brian Benczkowski.
